This thread inspired me to post this fact i found out a few days ago

28,000 people die every year from guns. (According to an anti-gun essay in the book Is Gun Ownership a Right? edited by Kelly Doyle)

There are roughly 70 million gun owners in the USA.

Divide the two and you get .0004% of gun owners have commited a crime with their guns. Assuming all gun crimes were committed with legal guns (which we know isnt truth) And thats not counting multiple murders with one gun.

Just a quick fact to remember ina debate or somesuch.

Don't forget to subtract suicide from the death by guns numbers. In 2000 there were supposedly 16,586 suicides by firearm in the US, leaving 10,801 homicides by firearm.

The gun deaths in the U.S. are somewhere around 20,000 per year. This includes three categories: homocides, suicides, and accidental discharges. The anti-gun lobby usually do the following arithmetic:

(All homocides + all suicides + exaggerated accidental discharges) = 35,000+

About 60% of homocides AND suicides are due to guns. Accidental discharges (80% long guns, 20% handguns) number less than 1,000 per year.

While 20,000 souls are indeed a tragic number, they need to deal with the facts and not inflate the numbers:cuss:
