I'm sure this was asked before, but I did a search and didn't get an answer.

If you have a concealed carry permit in NY, where is it legal to carry?

As far as I can tell, you're OK carrying in the street, as long as that street is not in a gun free zone, and in the middle of (some) woods.

It looks like places of worship are deemed "sensitive", even though that's where many shootings take place, and are indeed targets for many mass shootings.

I have no idea, but the impression I have is pretty much you can only carry deep in REM sleep, as "in your dreams" seems to be the theme of the gun control nuts in NYC.

NYC, because this city drives this agenda for the entire state.

However, this is an excellent place to start your search for your answer, as they're not only pretty comprehensive and up to date, they also provide the links to the actual statutes for the state:

I live in NY. The "SAFE" Act is all tied up in the courts. They have overturned the worst part, which was that you couldn't carry on any private property, included businesses open to the public, that didn't have signage explicitly stating that carry was allowed. For me, that pretty much limited me to my gun club and Tractor Supply.

Thankfully that aspect is gone, but the list of "sensitive places" is still ridiculously long. It is getting litigated, and I remain hopeful that most of it will get overturned. Public transport, in particular, should be a no-brainer, since that is so egregiously class-biased: If you don't have a car, you can't carry unless you walk everywhere? Puh-leeze ...

EDIT TO ADD: Miami_JBT has it right -- see below. It's really the new legislation, the CCIA, that is the issue in NY now, not the "SAFE" Act, which is from 2013.

Thanks for what seems to be a great resource.

The NY SAFE Act has nothing to do with the current issues regarding carry. The SAFE Act was passed in 2013 after Sandy Hook and is another restrictive gun control bill in a long line of abuses in NY in regard to magazine capacity and firearm configuration. The gun control passed after Bruen is the NY Concealed Carry Improvement Act. The improvements are that there are now more gun-free zones. GOA is challenging such in court as we speak.

Correct -- actually it's the CCIA, or "Concealed Carry Improvement Act" that is at the center of the current discussion. I think of the SAFE Act and CCIA as sort of a one-two punch of bad stuff that happened to legal owners in New York State.

NY was forced by the courts to issue more carry permits, so they said “screw you”, you can have a permit, but we won’t let you carry anywhere.

Not in school “zones”, hospitals, public trans., houses of worship, near Times Square area in NYC, etc, so pretty much nowhere in urban areas.

Worse now than before more permits were granted.

And these anti-gun legislators can write and pass more bad laws faster than we can litigate them. Litigate, re-write, and repeat.

And the Gov just signed a new batch today. One makes credit card companies track gun and ammo sales on top of the back ground checks. Suppose to alert if "Someone is stock piling ammo" says the Gov. She didn't mention the 13yo that shot and killed a 16yo the other day here. Crime is down you know.

The issue is they're aggressive lly going after guns the second they gain any power. The second our side gains power, the claim to be pro gun, but their actions say something else. Most Reagan, Bush, and Trump all push for more gun control and didn't aggressively push gun rights. The Clinton, Obama, and Biden all used their positions to aggressively go after guns. The same is true on the state level in purple states.

The "lay person" plain-language version is "only where explicitly allowed."
This is sometimes referred to as the "vampire gun" rule--no entrance unless explicitly invited in.
There was a recent decision that found using "vampire rules" unconstitutional, but that was in a far-off State in a different Circuit. So, until a case advances to NY's Circuit (and/or SCOTUS) will such things be legally re-examined.
And, like Bruen, NYS might explicitly ignore the decision and enact patently un-Constitutional laws anyway.

Again, a request for useful information yields wailing and gnashing of teeth. There is useful information above, but everyone is responsible for obtaining the accurate information they need. Thank you to those that provided legitimate and relevant information.
