NY state gun laws

Prince- it's more about spending my money in a place that I find more tolerable.

Not worried about the taxes, won't be an issue for me.

The more I read the better CT looks in this case.

In New York State, pre 1899 antique cartridge handguns require a pistol permit. New York State makes no distinction between modern and antique cartridge handguns.

Ohen Cepel, I live in PA, West Point area in around fifty minutes, Interstate 84.
PA has free public ranges, better taxes, CHL in twenty-one days.

So do I have to register each and every handgun by serial number after I wait 6mns to get my permit from the benevolent government?

Or, do I just need to get the permit?

The idiocy of these laws is rather cumbersome to say the least!

Also, do they let a guy with a C&R FFL order pistols? Long-guns? Is is worth it to have a C&R in ny?

Thanks for helping this southern boy from a free state get used to all the great laws from up north :)

you have to register every pistol on your ny permit

registering is for possession...maybe they will also let you carry them too
you dont know until you get the license back

you cant have a pistol that isnt on the license
it will get you into jail, pronto

you have to get the permit then add all the pistols you
want to have in ny on the permit

the ones you dont want on the permit, you have to leave
outside the state, hopefully in some safe place

as far as i can tell, any pistol able to be fired has to be
on the permit, even if it is c and r...it has to go through
a regular ffl

c and r would work for long guns, being able to be shipped
right to your house, instead of going through a regular ffl

that would definitely save you some money since the ffls
charge anywhere from 15-30 dollars for a transfer, depending
on who you are dealing with

I have to reconsider this assignment then. It's almost more pallatable to deploy overseas again than surrendering my rights at "home".

I don't have a safe place to leave my collection for 3-4 years. Pretty sad that people accept this.

Very sad for so many reasons..........

Oh, and does this idiocy apply to air pistols and rifles also?

As far as carrying because you are a US military officer, I would refer you to the NYS Penal Law, Section 265.20, Exemptions.

In subsection (d), they say "Persons employed in the military or other service of the US in pursuit of official duty or when authorized by federal law, regulation or order to possess the same."

In other words, unless you are on duty at the time and it's part of your duty to carry, the answer would be no. Also, you had better be carrying the official issued US sidearm even at that time.

Leave your handguns out of state and have them shipped FFL->FFL when you get your permit.

Long guns are not restricted in any way except for the AWB mirror. Basically, if it as a detachable magazine rifle, it can only have 1 "evil feature"
