I pulled the trigger on a little quarantine present for myself...a Beretta APX with the usual two 17-round magazines plus a bonus 21-rounder from Gun Pro Deals for $322 + shipping + transfer fee. It won't arrive for a couple of weeks with the current craziness, but I am going to need a holster. I am looking for something to wear OWB, possibly hanging a little low like a duty holster but not a tactical leg-strap set up, and I prefer nylon. Cross-draw might also be an option. APX holsters aren't as easy to find as some others, anyone have any suggestions? Cheers, Matthew

I feel obligated to give the safety recommendation - nylon holsters are generally not a good choice and particularly don't pair well with striker fired guns.

You may want to try the Bianchi side of Safariland for a nylon duty holster https://www.safariland.com/bianchi/products/holsters-and-gear/holsters/duty-holsters/

Edit to add: Here's the military half of Bianchi https://www.safariland.com/bianchi/products/holsters-and-gear/holsters/tactical-military-holsters/

i have been using the military style holster for mine. But its bulky. I agree with JTQ. safarilands are the way to go for owb and in iwb i use crossbreeds

Btw, i bought my first APX a little bit ago. I loved mine so much i got the 40 S&W full size and plan on swapping out by glock 19 for CCW if i can get ahold of one to handle before i order it.

Not nylon but Muddy River Tactical makes my IWB holster and offer a Kydex OWB option.

Clinger also makes APX holsters.

Personally I much prefer Kydex or leather to nylon. Better retention, better protection.

Thanks, all. I actually prefer nylon for my holsters and have tried several types, though not for concealed carry as I do not yet have my permit. The holsters are used for safe transport to the range and potentially for training, open carry, or concealed carry under a jacket. I have a couple of sticky rubber pocket holsters and don't like either of them, not at all confident that the gun wouldn't just fall out, so I prefer something with a positive strap or flap.

I already have a Bianchi Accumold type for my Beretta 81 that I like very much, and I recently picked up a Barsony flap holster for my S&W 642. I would would have been happy with an equivalent Bianchi for the APX but they don't seem to make one. So far I am finding the most interesting options from Italian manufacturers Falco and Vega. Not surprisingly, they both have quite a few options for the APX. I'll keep looking and welcome other suggestions.

Websites are not always up to date with all the varieties of guns covered. You may want to call and ask if that's what you're looking for.

If you're choosing a nylon holster, some sort of retention device is probably needed. At least for the concealed carrier, a retention device is generally not needed with leather or kydex.

Be aware of where the thumb break or retention strap is on your nylon holster with a striker fired gun. Getting a strap inside the trigger guard, and causing the the APX trigger, which has a very short trigger stroke, to move is something to be concerned about.

Thanks all for the feedback. JTQ, I am curious, wouldn't this apply to any holster with a thumb break or retention strap regardless of the material used?

Absolutely.

The difference is a nylon holster probably needs the retention strap to keep the gun from falling out of the holster because they are so soft and generally not molded to the gun shape. Conversely, leather or kydex (at least well made versions) holsters will typically have enough retention provided by the shape and stiffness of the holster without the need for a thumb break, a benefit of selecting either leather or kydex as a holster material over nylon.

Thanks for your feedback, though I suspect that it's not quite as black and white as all that. There are still a lot of nylon holsters out there including those in daily military and law enforcement use.
