Would-be burglars and vandals might have to watch which homes they target in Indiana County if a council member in tiny Cherry Tree Borough has his way.

Henry Statkowski is proposing a "civil protection ordinance" that would ask all heads of households in the 450-resident borough to maintain a firearm and ammunition so residents don't have to rely on police to do a "homeowner's job."

You know, I really like the way this guy thinks. :D

My delightful little borough in that area doesn't have such an ordinance, but if they ever do, I've got my entire block covered...:D

Resident Ken Farabaugh said he doesn't see the need for a gun.

"I don't think anyone should have a gun," he said. "The more guns you have, the more trouble you can get into."
Obligatory stupid comment is present, I see. Funny, I always thought the more guns you have, the more trouble you can get out of.

I once knew I guy from Finland (he was a Hockey player over here)...And he told me, that like some other countries, Finland had a mandatory 2 years of military service. When you left the military, you took your guns(s) with you. He said there were virtually NO home burglaries there, as every household had a gun, AND they knew how to use it.

Sounds like a plan to me!

Yes i have heard of that program too. All men who are fit to serve in the military are trained to fight and issued a fully automatic Sig rifle for them to keep in thier home.

Kennesaw,Ga passed a similar ordnance back in the 70's or 80's to counter a Morten Grove IL that banned handguns in the city limits all I can szy is "works fer me"

This is an exciting new angle from government.

"Stop bothering us; protect your own damn house."

I like this new angle also. Communication is vital to success. And when a government communicates with its people, that makes me smile.

This Statkowski guy did a very good job of presenting this message and I commend him for doing so. As for the nay-sayers, it isn’t like passing this ordinance is going to hurt anything.

How many hands does that guy have?

I believe everyody in the world should have guns. Citizens should have bazookas and rocket launchers too. I believe that all citizens should have their weapons of choice. However, I also believe that only I should have the ammunition. Because frankly, I wouldn't trust the rest of the goobers with anything more dangerous than string. -- Scott Adams

As I recall, people like Alexander Hamilton proposed it, too.

And he was a statist, by Founding Father standards.

I noticed that it was a simple resolution. It's be nice if this ordnance was tied to property taxes somehow. Boost taxes to pay for training, discounts per gun in the house, so gun owners break even.

citizens should have a choice whether or not to keep firearms.

if you agree with govt forcing people to keep arms you are agreeing that govt also has the right to force people not to keep arms.

Force? Who said anything about force?

It's framed as a SUGGESTION.

It is the local gov'ts DESIRE that every household be armed.

It is at the discretion of each homeowner, but is RECOMMENDED.

I think that is a great idea. Crime would have no choice but to drop. :)
No criminal in their right mind is going to break into a home where the chances of the owners being armed are greater than the chances of the owners being weak and unarmed.:uhoh:
Most criminals aren't too very bright, but most can figure out those odds.
However, I do belive in proper instruction and training for the gunowners.

It's true that we have a mandatory military service, (ranging from 6 months to 1 year) but you don't take the army's guns home like in Switzerland. However, many military reservists take part in civil reserve shootings with their personal "military style" guns. Rest of what you were told is pretty much true, burglaries are very rare and many households, especially on rural areas have guns.

Did anyone see Fox News's coverage of this? They did not like the whole "arming of citizens" at all. They kept on saying "It's a right, not a requirement".
