Oh, the frustration! Can't shoot - doctor's orders...

"Anyone else been in this position?"

I was out of commission from mid-September until December or so. I had back surgery 11/7 for a crushed sciatic nerve. It wasn't a disc problem or anything typical, just a crushed nerve that took the surgeon almost 3 hours to peel off my spine and tease back into shape.

I hurt after the surgery even on the morphine drip, but not as badly as I did before if that tells you anything.

Anyway, since I couldn't shoot (or walk, or drive, or much of anything for 3 months) I surfed the 'net and bought stuff. Nothing like big bottles of oxycodone, a computer and a Visa card. He put me on steroids for two 6-day periods and they helped a little, but whacked me out. That reminds me, I have 2 sets of Spegel grips for a 1911 that I need to put on guns and couple of scopes I need to open and mount. There're probably some other things stashed away that I don't remember buying. Oh well, I'm better now.

And I won a fancy EBR rifle sling in a Shot Show raffle I don't remember entering. I don't even own an EBR.

On second thought, hide the credit cards.

20,000 rounds of ammo?

No wonder your back hurts! I can see it now. "...spam can of 7.62X39, check. Crate of 7.62X54R...hmmmm, this is really heavy-OK, count of 3. 1....2....thr<RIIIIIP>"

:what:

Preacherman, the ammo ain't going anywhere. Rest your back. I had a protruding disc injury a year ago, and I still have problems with it. If you have any reading you've wanted to catch up on, you're in luck.

Preacherman,
So sorry to hear about your injury.Did you want to hear about back/neck injuries, or not being able to shoot?
I agree with the poster who suggested Chiropractic care prior to surgery. I've had a C4-C6 fusion and then 4 years later a C3 - C6 laminectomy. Then 4 years later, STILL suffering from neck pain I went to Chiro regularly for 6 months and got more relief than from the surgeries.
I had surgery @ the end of Feb for "triggerthumb". My request for one of my birthday presents next month is a shooter's glove with extra padding for the base of my thumb.
At least your ammo won't go "bad" while you are recovering.
Best Wishes for a speedy recovery,
Holly

Something you can shoot

Tripod mounted belt fed Browning machine gun. Either a .30cal M1919A4 or a .50cal M2. Just fit either with the proper electrical solinoid trigger group. :neener:

Seriously, reach out and thump someone.

Honest seriously, Take care of yourself and heal. Your ammo will stay safe in your locker. It's high and dry and will be waiting for you when your are ready and able.

Sorry to hear of your injury and dilemma PM. yuo have many years ahead of you (God willing), so take it easy and get well.

Preacherman, I feel your pain as I type this one-handed sitting here with a broken collarbone. My Orthopedic Doc told me not to shoot. Dang it! I should be better by 6/15 though. Good luck and heal quick.
