OK, now I'm confused. What frame on my 646?

I keep hearing it's an N-frame but then some people claim it's an L-frame. Is there a critical dimention I can mesure to tell the differance? It's my only S&W so I can't compare it with others and can't find a chart of which models use which frames.

S&W tells me it's the same size cylinder as a 686. So I know holsters that will hold a full-lug 4" 686 will work. What does that translate into?

Your 646 is an L-frame, the same as the 686, 586, etc.

    It's an L frame. The N-frame version is the 10mm/.40 610.

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks for the quick responses. That really opens up my holster choices :)
