How can I find out the model and year of manufacture of an
old Colt revolver. Numbers on the bottom of the grip are

It's either a Colt Model 1889 New Navy, or a Model 1892 New Army and Navy.

The 1889 New Navy was made from 1889 to 1894.
The 1892 New Army and Navy was made from 1892 to 1907.
