I have gone round and round with 1911's. The reliability of the platform had been my problem. Well a local website had a Colt XSE govt for $875. (as you saw in my other thread) The problem was, it wasn't exactly what I wanted. I was looking for a commander.

Being bit by the 1911 bug, I started hunting. Fast forward 2 hours, and I'm walking out of a gun store 100 miles from home with a brand new STI Ranger II. It was closest to what i was looking for. Man this thing is nice. I just have a few question about some changes I want to make.....

On a $1100 gun, you think they could afford a metal main spring housing. Ed Brown makes a chainlink one that appears to match the front strap stippling. My question is,
how well does the blueing of the Ed Brown match the STI? I like my guns to have clean lines and everything match. It bugs me when I see guns that look like an old lady's refrigerator magnet collection.

Insert above paragraph but apply to the plastic trigger. I think I like the solid long triggers but open to suggestions. As long as i get to keep the sweet trigger pull it came with.

Sights. It came with black on black. At first I didn't like em. They are starting to grow on me. I need to shoot it some more. Right now I am leaning towards STI's night sights. The ones with horizontal bar on the rear sight and dot for the front.

Keep in mind I am gun shy about affecting reliability. Anything done cannot impact it in any way. I have dabbled in AR building, and have some mechanical snap to me.

Any and all help or suggestions are welcome.

The Ranger II frame has been matte blued. I believe the metal on the Brown mainspring housing is more polished, so the finish will not be an exact match.

What about the Fusion chainlink mainspring housing?....its described as black oxide.
