(old news, but...) Hideous miscarriage of justice in Arizona

Faced with a grave threat from two dogs and a violent homeless mental patient while hiking in AZ, a retired teacher shoots and kills his assailant.. and gets 10 years after the court/DA paint him as a "gun freak salivating for a chance to use his training to shoot someone" while blocking critical evidence from being admitted.

This most egregious unjustice makes your blood boil. The guys seems like the nicest guy in the world, but too trusting and naive. The take home lesson is SSS -- shoot, shovel, and shut up.

This is illegal, and I do not recommend it.. It is also against the rules of THR to discuss illegal operations.

Sad story, could have been handled better, but saying he should have broken the law after a clean shoot is BS.

Broken "the law", eh.. the law is to a sad degree a function of your connections and funds. The DA could have so easily buried this, for the right person.

Instead of being in prison with his family cleaned out, Mr. Fish could have picked up the brass and gone home, and the police would have been (understandably) pleased to take another name off their roster of local ****bags and forget all about it. No higher justice is being served by what happened in court. It was a god damned travesty.

But after all, the job of the police is to make legal arrests, and the job of the prosecution is to win cases. What particular serf is processed in this manner, and considerations of justice or fairness, are completely irrelevant. The metrics of their performance figure in their advancement on the job, so the numbers better look good. If any justice occurs as the result of the "justice system" machinations, it is as a happy coincidence.

In this view, any contact with these authorities is potentially toxic for the average citizen. I doubt Mr. Fish is feeling particularly high-road right about now, having failed miserably in his cost/benefit analysis.
