Does anyone know if these grips use a different screw size? The factory screw doesn't seem to be the right size, it seems a bit too small in diameter.. These are for the old one piece checkered Pachmayr rubber "presentation" grips. I bought the grips from some guy locally, but they didn't come with a screw. I think they are old enough that it was before they came with the medallion on them, but it might have fallen off. Gun is 50 years old, grips are at least half that age by my best guess if not older as well. If anyone knows the right screw size I'd appreciate it. Numrich doesn't have the screw or even the grips in stock anymore.

Might be a trip to your local hardware store. Take your grip with you to match up threads and length. Most hardware stores carry a selection of small screws and possibly will have brass or silver. That's where I'd start.

I might have to check that out. But it has threads only at a certain point and it's an odd length. I would prefer to get a blued grip screw though like originally came with the Pachmayrs. The gun is blued but I could probably live with a brass, chrome or stainless screw. I wonder if Pachmayr could sell me one. I know everything is nuts right now so it might be a bit of a lead time on that.

I have an old (30+ years) Pachmayr presentation grip on my Ruger SBH.
It is a 8x32 screw that is 15/16 inch long and is recessed smaller in the middle, you might have to get it from Pachmayr.
I think the Ruger grip screw is 8x40.

Thanks, I'll contact Pachmayr and see what they say. The Ruger OEM grip screw just seems too skinny and will just not thread in at all.

So I received the grip screw from Pachmayr today. They were kind enough to send it out for free even with the backlog everyone has. I just tried to use it tonight and couldn't get the screw through the hole. I realized the hammer spring is in the way of the screw getting through. Looked at the factory grips and noticed the grip screw hole is way behind the hammer spring, but the Pachmayr grips is trying to be in front of the hammer spring. Doesn't seem like a good idea to make grips that way. I think I may have run into this same issue with a set of Pachmayr presentation grips and a stainless .357 Blackhawk many years ago.. Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

I'm going to look at some pictures online and try to determine if Pachmayr changed this or if they are all still the same. I might have to invest in some custom grips for this one. I put the factory grips back on for now. They are much worse shape than the rest of the gun, which is why I'm trying to replace them. Also, did Ruger ever stencil on the frame under the grips? It looks like someone's initials and three numbers underneath that. I'm guessing a previous owner did that, or maybe it was done on the line back in 1970 to determine the tech who put it together.

The grip screw on my Pachmayr grip for my Super black Hawk is in front of the main spring and fits fine.
My SBH is a 5 1/2 inch barrel and when it was built Ruger used the Black Hawk grip frame (shorter) for the 4 5/8 and 5 1/2 inch Super Black Hawks so that may be the difference.
