Looking at an older USP 45 down at the LGS. Date code KF ('95). Looks to be in great shape, perfect bore, frame and slide look great, just a little wear on the top of the barrel near the muzzle. Super clean and well cared for.

I know the older firing pins are eligible for upgrade, prolly won't do that right away, if ever.

It's got the older, sharper checkering on the grip, feels great.

I've seen a few references to frame cracks over the years, any locations to check?

I suppose it could use a fresh set of recoil springs, but I'll be shooting target loads at first.

Any other issues with the older USP's?

For $550 it looks like a great deal.

Great gun if you like to hold 2X4 in your hand. LOL I have own a few USPs over the years they never stay long. Just not my think I think $550 is too much IMHO. I preferred the HK45 but still sold that as well.

You might want to go check with the guys over at hkpro forum. They are some real Hk nuts that I’m sure will have your answers and then some.

Not a fan of that site.

Yup, 2X4 for me. The HK45 does have better ergo's, but the old USP 45 always shot straight for me. Shot some of my very best 50 yard groups with a USP 45 and my handloads. Won't choke on target SWC loads.

Besides, the USP has such a macho, over built, steroid taking look to it. Kind of like the Humvee of the pistol world. The HK45 looks too....how can I put put this... too festive? Too San Fransiscish?

Just be careful if it's a very early USP and IF you decide to swap out to the LEM trigger.

Friend has an older USP, cannot be modified to the LEM trigger without making modifications to the frame. That was the bad news, the good news was that after we struggled for several hours HK CS did it for a little over $70. I don't know what other parts with the older USPs are like that.

Other than that, it's a great gun. I prefer and own a HK45 due to the ergonomics, but 2 friends have USPs. I've never seen either choke on anything. Not exactly my idea of a CCW pistol, but as a service size pistol their pretty outstanding.
