I have a buddy trying to get some cash and he offered to sell me his olympic arms AR15, has the carry handle and seems pretty nice, he's asking $800 is that fair? And how good is the brand? I'm not looking for something to go to war with, if you had seen my previous post about Delton arms you know where I'm coming from, just trying to get opinions from people who have owned, own or shot them. Thanks as always gentleman, y'all are a priceless wealth of knowledge.

That's a bit steep. You can build a better rifle for $200 less. If he's hurting for cash, I'd offer somewhere in the $600 range.

Olympic Arms

Rusty Luck: I go along with Quentin If you really have decided to buy and AR start looking at the LGS, and Pawn Shops and Shooting Ranges in your area. I have bought a lot more used AR`S than new ones. I have had very good luck with COLT, ROCK RIVER, DPM`S, BUSHMASTER, but my favorite`s are ArmaLite and LMT`S. I have always been able to get a better equipted used AR than a new one. I have never bought a Olympic Arms AR. Take your time and a good deal will come your way. GOOD LUCK TO YOU: ken

Olympic Arms AR15 at that price is overpriced, you can get most models by them new cheaper than that, for $800 get you a RRA. for a little more, Bushmaster, Armalite DPMS or Stag, even the Smith & Wesson. Olympic Arms is on the low end of ARs.

What about trading a ruger SR9 and an XDSC40 w/ XD accessories and 4 mags for the AR15 with 3 mags, foregrip and 140rds of FMJ?

Im trying to sell my SR9 (I want a SR9c) and my XDSC40 (I want a XDMSC9).

Olympics are a good rifle and generally have excellent barrels. But 800 without knowing details is too much, my shop sells new for $750

I use three Oly's, a 5.56, a 7.62x39, and a 9mm and haven't had the slightest disappointment... (aside from the c-products 7.62 mags)

Well, no need to weigh in on what everybody else just said, but your "buddy" is full of it for 800 bucks. He's not offering you any deal, so laydown 500 bucks cash in front of him and say take it or leave it. He's not going to get that anywhere else, so if he needs the cash, he'll take it. I wouldn't screw a bud, but sounds like he opened that can of worms.

Depending on which model it is, it is a pretty bad deal, or a really bad deal. Their base model AR sells for about $650 new. I do think they build a decent product for the price, and they have a great warranty.

+1. Not a very friendly deal on the sellers behalf.

Olys are good guns that work like they should but for the money you are better off with more popular brands. Smith and Wesson has a good name and doesnt shoot any better or worse but smith always commands a premium on the resale market.

I've had an Oly since 2004, it's got close to 10,000 rounds thru it (actually, it's probably over that now), never had a failure related to anything but ammunition.
Made it thru a carbine course without a single failure. Before the course, some of the guys were saying things like they hoped I brought a backup, cause no way would my gun make it thru the course. (I did, and honestly, I didn't think it would make it either, because the internet told me so). Two guns went down, a Bushmaster and a Colt. Mine never even hiccupped.
Still as accurate as the day I opened the box.

That said, unless he's got $250-300 worth of optics on it, that price sucks.

Hell no.... AR mags, grip and ammo are dirt cheap so that's not a selling point.

I paid $500 for an Oly a few years ago and then discovered it's an early SGW with a milled billet receiver and stainless barrel in 5.56. Excellent rifle that has never failed. Not all Olys are crap, believe me.... although $800 is too much. Spend ~$200 less for a S&W Sport and get a heckuva rifle. My two cent opinion of course... and it's worth what you paid for it.... the advice, that is.

I've been happy with my Oly, but I agree that price is high. As for your trade, I'll ask, do you want a foregrip? Frankly, even that trade deal doesn't sound great.
