I would say that would be pretty rare.

I have found bullets that had impacted each other nose to nose.

    IMG_20131012_165303_572_zps5trrbenv.jpg

And even one hit from the side by other bullets.

    IMG_20131012_170656_468_zpsubmfjx20.jpg

Kind of cheating when they from a berm.

But the fellow that made this video could repeat it starting around 2:00 into it.

It says the cop shot a 45 bullet down the bad guy's 40 caliber barrel.

I'm skeptical. I'd like to see more evidence than just that picture and the brief description in the article. Also, if it was a .45 being shot down the front of a .40 barrel, it strikes me as even more unlikely. And if it wasn't a .45 down a .40 barrel after all and they got that part wrong, what other parts of this article did they get wrong?

I believe that it's not so uncommon for one fellow to shoot at and hit the other guy's gun because your eyes just naturally focus on the threat...and this will draw your aim too. But getting one right down the tube is pretty cool!:)

The cop was most likely using a JHP with exposed lead core, so if it hit the barrel the jacket was likely to shed and the core...or part of it continue down the tube.

So you think .45 acp is made of solid tungsten instead of jacketed lead and won't shed material as it collides against steel? You think the bullet would stop at the muzzle?

Picture shows lead pushing back slide of pistol. .40SW bullet looks pushed down into casing from impact.

What "evidence" do you need exactly?

I'm sure somebody shot 3 times during an assault has time to fabricate this.

It has happened before. I saw a revolver that took an incoming round in one of the chambers in the cylinder during a police shootout. People tend to focus on the threat and that leads to hits on guns and the hands holding them occasionally.

Whoa now. Settle down there, friend. Are you seriously getting upset at my comment? And please, lay off the straw man attacks. I'm not saying it's impossible or that it didn't happen, I'm just saying it's extremely unlikely. And it's unlikely enough that I'd appreciate more evidence than a brief, poorly-referenced article and that one picture that doesn't seem to show much.

    Straw man attack? Seriously?

What I am doing is ridiculing people who are always negative, especially when they don't seem to understand how soft lead can push into a barrel.

It is titled "One in a billion...", isn't it?

Does that classify as a "one shot stop?" :p

Ok, so maybe we don't need to argue over this?

    it's happened before

There was a thread on this site a few years ago, describing a similar event. As I recall it contained references to even more examples.

Some other long time participant of this site with a decent memory will have to dig it up, but I believe it was in the 2006-2007 period of time.

Rare, sure, but not one in a billion.

We sure this wasn't just another guy loading his rounds in the gun backwards? :D

Also, if this goon managed to fire a 45acp from his 40, it might look like an officer's bullet caused the gun to explode (lotta bad stories of thugsmiths doing really stupid things with ammo, like wrapping 44mag's with electrical tape so they'll fit in an old Colt 45 pistol )

Looks like a Springfield XD 40 Compact to me. Gotta say it held up pretty well considering a round coming down the pipe the wrong way!

I was troubled by the subhead that said the DA wasn't going to press charges against the deputy. Really? LEO takes three bullets, suspect demonstrably had a weapon pointed in his direction and there was the possibility of charges????

It's a wonder there's a single policeman working in America today.
