One month report on the SOG Trident folder

I decided to buy a Trident folder last month. It was
A: Cheap for a quality maker's knife.
B: Looks cool in it's TiNi coating and radical blade shape.
C: Is assisted opening, whic I need for a work/carry folder.
D: has a great grip which stays grippy in all conditions and temps.
E: Comes with a good edge and is easy to keep shave sharp.
F: Can be locked whilst in the pocket so it doesn't poke your goods.
G: Is a nice looking knife, and has a long handle compared to the blade.

I have used it for daily tasks, like cutting paracord, opening boxes, making a project with construction paper for one of my sons, cutting a big 4in round candle down to flat on top again for my boss, and daily carry. So far it has been stellar. Stays sharp, easy to touch up and get even sharper than the factory edge, and has a good solid coating on the blade. So far, the coating looks as if it just came out of the box.

I did notice one thing when I got it, the blade had a tad of side to side looseness in it when I got it and the knife doesn't have bronze bushes so when I adjusted it, I had to loosen it and go after it four or so times to get it just right so it both opens as designed, and has no play. But after ten minutes with it and an allen key, it is PERFECT.

It is a tad on the thick side on the scales for a pocket carry for a person who wants a small knife, but it carries well if you are used to a carry knife with at least a 4.5in blade. I find since I carry it in my left pocket, and am left handed, my holster is right there where I'd like the knife but have moved the knife to the very back of my front left pocket and after a lanyard is attached, it draws quickly and effectively for me.

I have one. My family got it for me last Christmas. I mentioned i liked its looks at Dicks sporting goods. hint hint....

I don't carry it to work, because it is considered a weapon. I carry it everywhere else, mainly for backup SD, so it doesn't get much utility work. When i do use it for utility it does fine and holds an edge.

It is thick, but is light enough i don't notice it. The assisted open is very consistant. Mine does not have the side to side looseness.

I am very happy with mine. I like it so much, it has revived my interest in knives.

The assisted opening on it is just scary to me. I'm sure there is a technique, but everytime I've had one on hand and tried to open it my thumb hits the edge of the blade. No cuts yet....why I probably will stay away from it.

Yo, there is a technique to it and those who are used to having to keep their finger on the blade on other knives till they are all the way open will find the exact same problem you do. I find if I put the middle of my thumbnail on the stud, and just lightly press it outward, it opens right up. I do consciously keep my thumb OFF the blade as it opens or it will hit the serrations when the blade is all the way opened.

I've had mine almost a year with no cuts from opening it.

With just a firm push to start the blade, it should go on its own. The thumb should not follow the knob or blade. There is no reason for the thumb to be against the blade, especially the edge. My thumb ends up just below the a axis.
