Resilience, meaning resistance to the worst possible elements ever. Unlike other threads, this is not an "If you could only have one of each." This would be in addition to what you already have. Choices should preferably be geared toward combat usage, therefore reliable and easy to employ.

Elements to withstand include sand, saltwater, extreme cold, neglect after use, and anything else you might think of.

Thus far, this is what I think might fit the bill:

Pistol: Glock of some flavor, all internals hard-chromed
Rifle: AK, hard-chromed within and without, polymer furniture
Shotgun: Remington 870, same treatment as the AK

Along this same vein, what about ammo storage? Would those polymer, o-ring sealed cigar cases be the best, or standard ammo cans, or... ?

I'm sure there has to be some processes out there more durable that hard chroming, if you actually want the "best of the best."
HC is really good, but with so many new finishes now, I think there would be somthing better. Anybody know of any?

For the rifle, M1A, GI parts. From what I understand, if you put GI parts in it, it'll run come heck or high water. It'll reach close in, it'll reach far out. It'll run in the arctic, it'll run in the jungle, it'll run in the desert, it'll run dry, it'll run wet. It's accurate enough to do the job if you do your part. Or so goes the legend.
