Online Hunter safety course

Has anyone had experience with http://www.huntercourse.com/usa/newyork/? It looks like you can get your hunter safety online. I want girlfriend to get her license (I got mine years ago). We live in New York City and she is so busy she wouldn’t have time to go to an actual course. Is this site credible?

I'd check with your state Game and Fish Dept. I teach hunter safety here in GA. We have an online course that can be completed. You have to print out a form at the end and bring it in to another class. You complete the course work online, but still show up at a scheduled class just long enough to take the test. It does save a lot of time.

I have no idea how it would work in NY, but wouldn't be surprised if they don't have something similar.

Why would you pay that money when you can just sign up for the class and be done with it? Unless it's mandatory,but I dont think so.I would just take the hunters safety course in my state & county.There must be more to that I guess.

Sounds a lot like the CCW course offered here in Denver, won't fly though! How are you going to prove you're adequate with a firearm on your computer? The "Duck Hunter" game won't get it!

Minnesota has both traditional classroom Hunter's Safety, and an online option. The online option lets you do the bookwork and quizzes online, but you must then attend an all-day field and range day to prove your understanding of the course material, and demonstrate gun safety.

Here in Maryland folks may take it online as it requires 9 hours of classroom time, which is normally done over three days, or three evenings, plus there is a written test and a hands-on practical. So going online allows the student to complete the information portion when a schedule may not normally permit such, and then show up for the test and practical.

WV has an on line course but you have to show up in person to finish it and get the certificate. Its a two part course, on line and in person. I wouldn't pay for something thats usually free.

We have an online course here in Arkansas. It is like yours in that you take a printout to an instructor after your online class and then take a final from the instructor. My only gripe is there is no mandatory hands on shooting qualification.

Utah has an online option. Take the course online, then a 'field day' at the gun range where you review the course material, have questions answered, and take the shooting test.

I've been thinking of re-taking the hunter safety course for fun. It's been about a jillion years since I was 12.

WI has the same setup as MN in #5 above. Do the course work on line then an all day field day and tests.

Colorado DPW does have a sanctioned on-line Hunters Education class. You take 80% of the class on-line then show up for 4 hours to a proctored class. Take your written test then go fire your 10 shots, done.

Check to be sure your state authorizes this class and you are good to go!
