Congratulations! I remember my first gun (oh so many years ago!) too :D Funny tho, at about 2 or 3 it'll feel like time is slowing down & maybe even going backwards ;)

Hey Gus, that is 7 days til you can purchase a handgun on your own. You could purchase a rifle and can own a handgun now. Also 7 days til you can get your CCW permit.

Get it right kid.

I was lucky, my Dad gave me an old rifle to trade in on my 1st handgun. That combined with the money I had saved up let my put the money down on the $700 Glock 24P I had been drooling over.

8 years later I still have that gun and I've put a good 5-7000 rounds through it. I lost track after about 1800 rounds. Love that gun. The sights sucked though. I've replaced them with JP Custom DoubleRings and put in an extended slide catch to make it easier to lock the action open. Only other mods were hand polishing the contact points on the connector bar for smoother opporation.

Ah, the memories! Now if hadn't moved out of MO maybe I could finally get a CCW  Just have to work on setting the Kansas folks straight.

Anybody else waiting for Gus to say,
But Daddy! , tilt that head and give that <wink>

And Perfessr to melt and say Ok

I am, and I promise to laugh real hard when he caves in too...;)

Go get 'em Gus...

Accessories

OK, back on track. What else should I pick up with my first gun?
I've already bought the lock. I'll pick it up with the gun.
Have snap-caps in the appropriate sizes.
Have ammo. :)

What do you wish you'd bought right away with your first handgun?

Get your self a nice cleaning kit, not that I clean my 22 bore that much, just a patch after shooting but I clean everything else. definatly get some of that great cologne Hoppe #9, great stuff for cleaning gunk. and what ever gun lube you are into. NOT WD40.

Cool! Any idea what you are going to buy?

My first handgun was a S&W 686 Plus, 6" barrel.

First Firearm Purchase: 10/22
Second Firearm Purchase: Glock 22
Third Firearm Purchase: Enfield #4 Mk. 1
Fourth Firearm Purchase (assembly): RRA LAR-15 lower receiver, Bushy NM lower parts kit and 20" freefloated A2 upper.
Fifth Firearm Purchase: I can't wait to see!

All four were in the same year though; If you have a friend who doesnt own guns, take them shooting! Worked for me :D (Thanks Erik!)

The application is filled out and all I gotta do is drop it off. :D

As for first guns. financially nothing. When the funds come in who knows. I gotta get to the range to see what off dad's I like. :)

Gus

Dilettante, I don't quite understand what you mean. Are you saying it is seven (OK, now two) days before you turn 21, or two days left on your waiting period? California, which I recently left, has a 10-day waiting period; in the past it has been as long as 15 days for long guns and 20 for handguns. In Nevada, your first handgun has a three-day wait, and subsequent guns have no wait.

I'm talking about the California waiting period. (I am well past 21. :( )
I put my deposit down last Saturday, which means the countdown is now at

:)

Thanks 10-Ring.
Unfortunately I can't go in today or tomorrow. Looks like the inaugural shoot will be Thursday.

I hope Gus gets hers soon as well.
