Springfield Operator that is, I just got it back from the Springfield custom shop. Bobtailed and 30LPI on the frontstrap, action job (4.5 lbs and sweet) and recrowned the barrel.
Can't take it to the range for a few days but I sure want to.
The turnaround time quoted was 10 weeks but I got it back in 3. The checkering is machine. Whole bill including refinish on the frame was $520 and well worth it.
The magazines are Tripp Research
It actually shot great before I sent it to the custom shop. I would have been wasting money to send a gun I had not tested and broken in. I'm sure it shoots as well or better, but I'll let you know.
The Bobtail rounds the grip so it prints less. Also, some people like the round grip as it's reminiscent of the round-grip on a revolver. It tucks into the hand a little better.
I find it definitely more comfortable for carry, it does print less, especially if you bend or twist your torso a lot ( getting my baby out of his baby seat comes to mind ), and I find it very comfortable to shoot too. I would have all my 1911's bobtailed from now on.....
