Recently I saw a price on the XD 45 I could not refuse... $389 new, $410 after FFL transfer fee. Keeping in mind that SA now has a mail in rebate for 3 free magazines.

I sort of have a hatred for Springfield becuase I generally don't like guns made in 3rd world nations that are as expensive, in many cases more expensive than some like Glock or S&W M&P's (NOTE I did NOT say not made in the USA)...but everyone raves about the XD so I decided to try it. It should be here later this week or early next week.

I am curious to see how I like it and wil ltry to remain unbiased when I form my opinion.

Am I the only one that doesn't like Springfield because they are made in Croatia / Philippines? It is nearly impossible to find things made entirely in the USA now, I just prefer to then by things made in developed countries NOT known for Muslim terrorist groups or atrocious child labor.

I shoot an xDM 9 as my primary competition gun. Almost never had a failure of any kind except for a precious few that were my fault.

My 12 year old daughter is now rocking that as her competition gun so I might have to switch back to the 1911.

The only quibbles I had about them were that IDPA didn't allow them in the Stock division (which was reversed last year) and that the bore axis was supposed to be a bit higher than a Glock, which turned out to be not an issue in any way.

So yeah, they're good pistols.

Don't like stuff made not here? Hey, everybody's got to have something to worry about. Might as well be that, right? Personally, I have enough worries already that that one doesn't even flit across the margins of my radar.

Stereotype much? I think I know how you came by your login name.:p

I've had one for five years that's been my wife's and my own primary HD gun. It's been very accurate and reliable. She was considering a Glock, but found the slide release easier to use on the XD. Plus she liked the grip safety. I just went along with it, and it worked out pretty good.

I also like my 4.5" XDm 9MM quite a bit, and no, it doesn't bother me where it is made.

Yes, they were cheaper when they were the XS2000, but they are not quite the same gun now, nor did they have the full backing of SA.

I had an XD in 40S&W that I was really enthusiastic about....until I shot it. The high bore axis did matter to me and I knew after 50 rounds I wasn't going to keep it. I traded it a month later.

Good quality gun though, felt great, pointed pretty good, I just hated that flip caused by the higher bore axis.

I just sold my XD45 a few days ago. Very nice gun and no complaints about it other than it was a little large to fit my hand comfortably. I am looking around at the XDM models because adjustable back straps appeal to me.

I got an XDs45 last year because I wanted a carry piece in 45acp to add to my rotation. I wasn't expecting to like it all that much. Kinda like I'm not real fond of the PF-9 I carry, but it's real convenient and easy to conceal.

Fact is, I like that little XDs more than I expected to. Accurate, reliable, and handles well. I'm pleased with it.

Have both the XDS in .45 and 9mm. Found both to be very reliable and easy handling. Only thing that bothered me was the back strap on the .45 started chewing up my hand after firing about 60 rnds. at the range one afternoon.

Ironically I actually work in HR. HOWEVER I do not think calling the Philippines a country known for its Muslim terrorist group's is a stereotype. This is information I learned in the military. They have Abu Sayyaf, MNLF, MILF, Rajah Sulaiman, Islamiyah... Am I missing any? Also Croatia is a large source of child labor, as well as sex slavery. It may even be the largest area for that economy in the Eastern UK. These two comments are NOT stereotypes, they are factually based. Saying Southern's like moonshine or New yorkers all like pizza is a stereotype... I digress.

In todays international economy I do not find products in other places objectionable. I do not like them to using name Springfield Armory. That outfit was in Mass if I recall correctly.
I found 1911 with parts made in Vermont and finished in Nebraska. As American as apple pie. No stinky MIM parts either. It is .45 auto not much larger than the XDs. Next time you go to the post office look at transparent tape. Made in Taiwan assembled in USA. That is kinda depressing.:uhoh:

I've got an XD-40 that I've had since 2007. It is a good gun. It is accurate & reliable. It does have a higher bore axis than some others but it should serve you well.

I have shot duty size 9mm at range once. It's good tool just like: Glock, Walther, S&W M&P, H&K,.... Just piece of metal and plastic. The only downside is one isn't going to get pride of ownership like with a custom made gun or tailored suit.

My Glock 17 was made here in the USA,Smyrna, Ga.! I know what you mean, Croatia sounds funky, but these handguns have pretty well proved themselves at this point. The three mag deal is a sweetener! Sounds like you got a good deal.

What of Springfield's is made in the Phillipines? Their 1911s are made in Brazil. The old P9 was made in Italy

I have three Springfields. An XD sub compact in 40S&W, an XD Tactical in 40, and an XDm 5.25 in 9mm. All have been great guns.

I own more Springfield and Beretta pistols than any other make. My Springfiels are a XDM 40, XDM 9, XDM 9 3.8, XDsc 9, XDc 45, and XDS 9 4.0. Great guns and SA has great customer service.

Some are made in the Philippines and some Croatia. I think XD's are made in the Philippines and rifles (maybe) are made in Croatia. I do not recall, but I know they are made in both places.

I do not like them to using name Springfield Armory.

THIS!!! Several years back I even saw an ad that sad "Springfield Armory, America's oldest armory..." That was annoying because they were America's oldest armory perhaps but then they were sold off...so they are NOT American anymore.

Good heavens. I don't mean to be rude, but you don't even know the basic details of the things you're upset about. And apparently can't even be bothered to do a 2 second Google search to find out before you complain?

The xD series of pistols is made in Croatia. Says so right on every one, and in their info, and pretty much anywhere they're discussed. The original design was known as the HS2000. Many of their 1911 models are forged in Brasil (which has a long-established and well respected firearms manufacturing industry).

The original Springfield Armory is in Massachusetts and is a national historic site. (http://www.nps.gov/spar/index.htm) It certainly hasn't been sold. The government arsenal there was closed in 1968. In 1974 the commercial firearms manufacturing company named SA was begun in IL dedicated to building the M1A clones of the M14 rifle and has grown since then. Both the original site and the new company are indeed American.

While it is a lot of fun to get riled up and ride a wave of patriotic emotion, in the future at least do the basics of a quick fact-check so you don't accidentally come off looking foolish.

Some are made in the Philippines and some Croatia.

Same pretty much said it if you read between the lines - but just to reiterate - no Springfield Armory products are made in the Phillipines. Not that there's anything wrong with Phillipino guns - my STI Spartan is made there - but Springfield Armory doesn't source any products from there.

Yup, it is written right on the gun, my SA 1911oids are clearly marked Made in Brazil. Or is that Brasil? You know, you have the Girl From Ipanema and the Gun From Ijatuba.

And a lot of them have enough domestic content to lack those markings and count as Made in USA.

I love mine. I don't care that shooting 100 rounds starts to hurt, that's not what it's meant for. I added some Big Dot sights to mine.

The nose gets a little dirty after firing it a while.

Croatia is hardly a Third World country. It's just another small European nation, one that's done surprisingly well for having been a part of Yugoslavia once upon a time. It's part of NATO and the EU nowadays.

Brazil is a Third World country but I haven't heard anybody complaining about IMBEL's labor practices. Given that it's the state arsenal, it's probably OK on that front.

As has been pointed out, Springfield doesn't import guns from the Philippines, but I wouldn't have any problem with a Filipino 1911. Yes, the Philippines does have a problem with Islamic terrorist groups, but they're actively combating it. Buying a Filipino 1911 isn't supporting terrorism, as the OP seems to be implying. And, lest we forget, the Philippines were a US possession from 1898 to 1946 and we've been allied ever since.

I have no more than maybe 5 magazine's worth of time with an XDs in .45. That said, I really enjoyed what little time I had with it. (I got to shoot a buddy's at the range.)

100 rounds? Shoot, that's a pretty light day's shooting for mine. I've certainly lost count of the number of days I, or my 12 year old daughter, have put at least that many through it.
