Opinions on XD Grip Safety and Trigger System

How do you all feel about the grip safety? Worthwhile safety feature, or something that could potentially break?

Does it have a decent trigger pull?
 
Grip safety doesn't bother me, it's a good feature and in unobtrusive.

The trigger is pretty good, for what it is. Breaks clean, not much grit or takeup.
 
Can't complain about the trigger. Could get used to it.

Do not prefer grip safeties.
 
Great trigger and I was weaned on the 1911 series in the military so its presence is not a problem. Always nice to have a bit of redundancy when it comes to safety mechanisms.
 
Trigger is fine for me. Grip safety is completely unobtrusive and you dont even realize it's there. Not worried at all about it failing or anything.

1) i see no reason why it would be anymore potential to break than any other part on any other handgun, i have had mine for 16 months and after many rds down range and many practice sessions with the pistol, i have never had an issue with it. my wife dosen't like it but it is my gun and she dosen't have to like it, i have tottaly forgot it is there for the most part. i do like the fact that the slide will not come out of battery without it being depressed, a great feature i believe, one that the glocks don't have.

2) i personally believe the trigger pull on the xd is the best of any of the big name, polymer framed pistols going right now. and with time it gets even better, i was amazed at how nice it was out of the box, but after the 500rd, 1000rd, and 1500rd marks you could definetly tell a difference between the trigger pull before and after. though i wouldn't change a single thing about my trigger simply because I know what it is gonna do before it does it, i am in tune with it and i am one with the trigger i guess you could say, but if you did get one a decide to have a trigger job done, then Springer precision does a great job. but i do suggest that you put 1000-2000rds through a new one first i promise you will be able to tell a difference.
 
I've been wondering about the xd45 trigger for some time now myself. Seeing as ranges here in NY do not rent out guns, it's impossible to try out anything without buying it. After hearing that the trigger return was somewhat long on the XD, I've been holding out buying an XD45.
 
I honestly disliked both, but i come from shooting glocks. The XD 9 that i shot flipped more then my glock, and i didn't like the feel of the grip safety in the web of my hand. ( Flame Suit On:fire: )

I have found the grip safety to be a non-issue. At first I was a little leary of it, but is very unobtrusive. Now the trigger pull I have found to be very good. As another gentlemen posted here, it really gets better after the 1000 or so round mark. I never found it to be a problem from the start. The trigget pull is smooth throughout the entire pull and relatively short. I really enjoy shooting it. I am going to the range today to shoot it. I am actually teaching my married daughter to shoot with it. Many people ask why not teach her with a .22 or at least a 9mm. But I have found the XD to have very acceptable recoil and it also quite accurate. In a nutshell it is easy too shoot. I am making her a .45 fan. Rock on!

You should try the ported models, practically no muzzle flip. I have the XD-9 ported in OD-green. I don't mind the grip safety, although it leaves marks in between my thumb and pointer finger. I think after an extended period of shooting, there might be some irritation. The trigger is pretty good, mine is real easy to pull back at first, and then it hits a hard spot, if you pull through the hard spot, it fires. I like that in the trigger because I always know exactly the point where it will fire.
 
I was also skeptical on the safety of this weapon. So I put it through it's paces cocked, but not loaded. I did this for 2 months and the safeties never failed and that includes two drops from about 3 feet, one on carpet, the other on tile.

Yes, they were intentional.
 
My only complaint is that you have to depress the grip safety to work the slide. I'd rather not have to on general principles. Otherwise, why not have an extra safety?
 
Ask every cop who's ever AD'd a Glock while holstering if the wouldn't like to have a grip safety. XD triggers can snag all day long and they're not going to fire as long as you reholser with your hand off the grip safety.

While I'm sure it could potentially break, I think it is a worthwhile safety feature.

I really don't like the safety trigger concept. If the gun is drop safe, then the only time you will have an unintentional/negligent/accidental/whatever discharge is if the trigger is pulled by something (holster flap, finger, tree branch, cat, etc.). Adding an additional safety trigger on top of the regular trigger doesn't seem like it is going to help much.

On the other hand the grip safety actually adds redundancy to the safety scheme which is a good thing. And it is still transparent with nothing to flip if you are drawing the gun with the intention of using it. Train yourself not to actuate the grip safety during holstering or routine pistol handling and you can save yourself some potential grief if you make a stupid mistake.
 
I have no problems with the XD safeties. In fact I prefer them to Glock as unless it's gripped the trigger can't be pressed.

I like the XD trigger and it does get sweeter with age EXCEPT trigger reset. I want a better reset point - if that was done the XD would be practically perfect.

This thing has a grip safety?

Oh, yeah. I guess it does. I certainly don't notice it when I shoot. Call me an idiot, but I am absolutely unconcerned about having it on my XD45.
