Greetings!

Recently I've busted out my old old armscor m20p semi-auto plinker. I recall it being reliable and accurate. These days it is neither, but it seems like the issue is the Winchester 333 ammo I've been using lately. I've noticed that the 333 ammo tends to bend where the bullet and case meet, causing the misfeeds I've been noticing.

So. . . what .22 bulk ammo do you like?

I'm having good luck with Remington Golden Bullet. This brand generates a lot of intense dislike on the internet but it is the best bulk 22lr in MY firearms.

Try a few different brands to see if your firearm(s) have a favorite.

Just for fun try a box or two of higher priced target ammo. It really made the groups shrink for me. Too pricey for plinking all the time but if I need my ego re-stoked I'll shoot a box and think I actually know what I'm doing!

Good Luck.

Dan

.22 semiautos are notorious for being picky about ammo. My Rugers will eat anything. My wife's SIG Mosquito will choke on anything that says "Federal" on the box. It LOVES Remington Golden Bullet bulk. Blazer bulk 40gr solids work well.

I don't share many's distaste for the Golden Bullet bulk. My 10/22 also likes them. The results of a range session with several makes surprised me.

of course cci will be your best bet, but you want cheap and good, right? federal bulk as well as winchester super x is pretty anemic ammo and 100% fails 100% of the time to cycle in my beretta bobcat. half the time it doesnt have the energy to even eject the casing, the other half of the time it will eject the casing, but isnt powerful enough to grab another round. super x will give me 3 jams out of 10 in my 10/22. The only bulk ammo that I have found 99.9% reliable in my guns has been remington golden bullets. I really like em.

Reefin thats because Berettas are built to Itallian ammo standards, try fiocchi and I bet your problem disappears. European bullets tend to run a bit hotter. With that said, CCI is the standard to which all others are measured, but I prefer Federal Auto Match in the 325 box.

My CZ rifles group well with Federal Automatch...My Ruger MKs will feed anything. I shoot mostly Federal 36gr plated bulk in them. My 10" guns will shoot under 2" at 50 yards using sandbags and optics.

I did a test with six different brands in my Marlin 39A. I got the best groups from the Federal Auto Match.

Mine seem to like it as well as anything else. I honestly have not found a whole heck of a lot of difference between Fed., Rem, Win, etc... It's all kinda the same generic bulk stuff.

I guess I'm just lucky. Of my 4 .22s, all of them do fairly well with just about everything. I've had very good luck with Rem GBs. I bought 4 525 rd bulk packs of Federal in the blue box a couple years ago. My Marlin Model 60 eats everything, my Nylon 66 has never had issues with any brand. My 6" Firestorm sometimes gets hung up on bulk stuff but always eats mini-mags. I know it just needs to be cleaned more often. My Bobcat only chokes when it's limpwristed.

I personally think all 36 gr. milk box cartridge stuff is carp and laugh when I see folk talking about which works best in their particular gun. There are very cheap people out there, sorry. Federal AutoMatch is the only such stuff I buy for myself except for the others I can't help but find on sale on the counter that I buy to basically give away...

So far, none of my guns dislike Golden Bullet, aside from the rounds without primer, or smashed cases, or outright bent bullets. They shoot it, it's still not good.

My Savage Mark 2 can knock a penny off the paper at 50 yards with Winchester Dynapoint, though.

Another vote for Fed Auto Match. Winchester Subsonic and CCI SV also work good in my bolt CZ's but not sure they will cycle in semi auto. It's not bulk, but SK Standard + shoots really good at 50 yds, but I don't know about 100

I've had the best service from Federal Automatch. Not as low priced as most bulk, but very good consistent performance.

This question comes up all the time. Remington is terrible, Winchester is horrible, and Federal is crap. Or not. Whatever.

Personally, they all work well in my rifles and my friends'.

Conclusion: Get the best deal you can find.

Cheap

"The best deal you can get" shouldn't be limited to lowest price! Try quality. Spend a little more, like, TWICE as much, and see how it performs...

Among the less expensive bulk 22LR ammo my favorite is CCI Blazer. For all around plinking/small game stuff in 4 different rifles and a S&W 2206 handgun it seems to be the best compromise for all of them. About 14 years ago I also spent a couple hours with several 22 rifles, a bunch of different 22LR ammo and my chronograph. The Blazer usually had the most consistent velocity readings even though some rifles prefer other, pricier ammo for best accuracy. Plus, I cannot ever recall a dud round when shooting Blazers. For the price, at least in my guns, it's the best general purpose stuff around. Too bad I haven't seen any lately, but I still have about five and a half bricks and I don't shoot as much 22LR as I used to so that should last me a long time.

My experience is Federal or CCI Blazer bulk packs are the most trouble free. I seldom shoot bulk ammo. My "bulk" ammo is usually the 50-ct boxes of Federal Lightning/Champion (#510/510B). I have a few cases of these and unlikely to run out anytime soon if I am the only one shooting it up.

I tend to have pretty good luck with Remington Golden Bullets in terms of accuracy and consistancy. But there are FTF's but less now with 'new and improved".

Federal 550 bulk pack. But Federal 510b in 50 pks and bricks with a non plated lead nicely lubed bullet shoots better, and is a little cheaper. Least it was when some was on the shelf at wally world some time back. when chronographed it goes same speed as 550 pk. I'll say once again, if you like these pick up a brick or two every time you are in wally world and these shortages won't affect you. That is if it ever gets back to normal, or what becomes normal. good luck.

Fed Auto Match shoots much better than the general bulk Fed .22 and the Winchester 555 bulk stuff in my guns. I have not tried the CCI bulk yet, but do have some back ordered.

Ammo changes from time to time and it's obviously different in different areas of the country. Everything Remington in my area is horrendous. It is by far the worst ammo I've ever shot. Nothing else even comes close to being as rotten. But some swear by it. That must mean they are selling different stuff around the country. It's the only explanation.

I like CCI bulk ammo these days. If you count CCI SV as bulk ammo (which it is IMO) then I'd say it is the best. It does cycle all of my semi-auto .22's. CCI Blazer is very good also but not as good as the SV. I shot this group at 100 yards with SV from a Savage MkIIBTV. BTW that's a picture of a quarter, not the real thing. It's the same size as a quarter though. Obviously I can't do this "every" time but I can do it often.

I shot Federal bulk for at least 25 years but it went way down hill after the 2009 shortage. I have no idea what it's like now. I haven't seen any for months except what's in my safe.
