    Hey y'all,

I have a really nice VZ-24 that is in surprisingly good shape for a rifle supposedly bound for the Eastern Front. It has all matching parts except for the bolt, which is stainless (did the Nazi contract rifles for the Romanians have matching stainless bolts?).

What was the original finish on these rifles? Mine has a light brown hue to it and I'd love to bring out its natural attributes, but don't want to make it 'unoriginal'. Any hints?

    Thanks in advance!

The bolt is steel "in the white", and not stainless steel. The light brown hue on the rest of the metal parts is caused by light surface rust, though those of us who enjoy military surplus firearms refer to it as "patina." Fancy name or not, though, it's rust. The original finish is blue.

Do you have pictures to post?

    HTH,

I should have said 'wood finish' is light brown; the metal is in excellent shape. So I was hoping to learn what the original finish on the wood was so might improve its looks without making it 'modified'. Thanks!

Oiled finish on the stock, like boiled lindseed oil, would be proper. Multi coats works the best.

I just refinished mine with some tounge oil and am quite pleased with it. Pics to follow (please ignore by beat up blinds).

Sir, I got it from Aimsurplus.com, ordered two of 'em when they had 'em in stock. It was 200 bucks a pop for scrubbed crest and a great bore I just needed shooters and didn't really care about the crests. This was the better one but both are pretty good.
