Orlando Area Gun Shops

Hi, A newbie here. I will be on vacation in the Orlando/Daytona area at the end of the month. I like old rimfires and anything else made from 1900-1970. Wanted to know what gun & pawn shops are in the area that carry a good selection of the "old stuff". Please don't direct me to anything new. I've been told about a place called AAA Gun & Pawn in Deland. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Is Pragers still in business? They were in business from at least the late '60 to 1980 when I left FL. My dad bought by first gun there (a Colt Trooper Mk III). It was on Mills Ave. a couple blocks south of FL Hospital.

Firstly, AAA is huge and definitely worth the drive. It's much larger on the inside than it looks on the outside and is full of guns. Lots of old stuff. Love's is a little further north, lots of great old gun junk and Civil War relics but prices are high. There's another shop, heading back south on 17 on the right side of the road that is also a good one. Don't remember the name. Deland is a fair stretch from Orlando and will take the better part of a day to go to and tour the gunshops. Shoot Straight in Apopka also has some old stuff. It's one of the largest shops in all of Florida. Buffalo Bill's Shooting Store was a wonderful cowboy action and blackpowder specialist but I have not been since it changed ownership and location. I was not at all impressed with the new owner when I met him at the old shop. Peterson's in Mt. Dora was always my favorite. They have lots of good stuff, old and new and their prices were always reasonable. They also have an interesting museum section. Addison's in Kissimmee is another good one but a long drive from anywhere in Orlando.

Prager's was one of my favorite shops but unfortunately, it's long gone. They closed almost 20yrs ago. They had lots of old stuff. I think one of the owners has a shop around Lessburg called The Gun Shop. IMHO, it would not be worth the substantial drive.

My vote for old guns would go to Peterson's in Mt Dora and Shoot Straight in Apopka. Addison's in Kissimmee would be a 3rd choice.

Only partially correct. An out of state person can buy a long gun over the counter in Florida. He can also buy a handgun but, the shop must ship it to an FFL holder in the state where the person resides. They will normally charge anywhere from $20 to $50 to do this plus the charge on the other end in the buyer's state, if any.

rkammer is correct about out of state sales. However, don't go into Peterson's and expect them to know anything about doing transfers. Ain't worth the trouble. In that regard, those guys are almost completely ignorant.

And, perhaps you don't need to be reminded (but it's worth mentioning for everyone's benefit) that you don't want to think about having a friend or relative buy the gun for you. That's called a "straw purchase" and is strictly forbidden by BATF.

Thanks for the info. I have a Curio & Relic so we will find out who knows what. I find most dealers don't know squat about a C&R license. Keep those suggestions coming as I figure I'll be able to cover anything within a 50 mi radius of Orlando and I'll go further for a really good shop.

I like to visit Florida Gun Exchange down in Port Orange on semi regular basis.
A lot of it's changed over to the tacticool but sometimes they have a good rack of used oldies out front.
Might want to give that a once over.

An other voter for AAA pawn in Deland. They have a lot of pre 1950s stuff and may modern guns as well. I have only been there once, and there pricing can be hit or miss.
