I did search the forums and found this: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=534155&highlight=handgun+ownership+in+florida

I have a question though, and I can't post to that page because it said it was 201 days old or something. So here is my question, also would want to know if there was an update in the laws for 2011.

I'm 19 almost 20. And i want to do the same thing. Have my dad gift me a handgun or buy it from my 21+ old cousin. I am, other than age, allowed to own firearms.

If i get gifted or privately buy from my older cousin a handgun, i just want to double check that is OK, LEGAL?

Also would I at 20 be allowed to keep the handgun loaded, safety off in my center console? or is that only for 21+ ppl

Sry for the 20 questions, but also, I would also be allowed to take it to the range by myself, I would NOT need to be with 21+ person if i brought my own ammo ( i know i can't buy handgun ammo till 21)

    Thanks for your help

Welcome to THR! Yes, both gifts from family and buying from your cousin in a FTF sale is legal. Unfortunately, I can't comment regarding the bringing it to the range question.

Im 19 going on 20 in Florida also :D

Heres the sitrep for what Ive read on the Statutes website and cops and whatnot.

Being over 18 you can get a handgun anyways you from except from a dealer.
I drove to Tampa to get a CZ75B on my 19th birthday, the guy I bought it from had 2 teeth... and that was it.

Since your car is an extension of your home under Florida law, you can do whatever you would in your house, in your car. You can also have loaded rifles in your car if you want, the only stipulation is that the firearm be "securely encased" which in florida means either
    In a snap case
    In the glove box
    In the center console

Basically anywhere you cant just reach over and grab it (like on the seat or the floor) there has to be something you have to do in order to gain acess to the firearm (unsnap the case, open the glovebox, or open teh center console)

I printed out FSS 790.25(5) and put it in my glove box.
Cops hassle me, theres the law, look it up.

fist off, thanks for the reply's

kingpin008, im sure its a dumb question, but what does "FTF" mean?

tyeo098, do you take your CZ75 to the range by yourself? and if so, any problems? or heard of anyone that does?

Slow - no dumb questions, man. This place is here so that people can learn, ya know? Anyway, FTF is short for Face-to-Face, or a gun sale conducted by private citizens. Most states allow this, and Federally you may purchase a handgun in a FTF sale at 18.

However, face-to-face sales MUST ALWAYS take place between resident of the same state. If you buy or sell a gun to someone from out of state, it MUST be transferred through a FFL dealer. Otherwise, you've committed a felony.

    Hope that helps! :)

In this context, "face to face" (as in transaction).
It can also mean failure to feed or failure to fire.
