The more I think about this the more I'm convinced the gun has had the original slide replaced with a later one. That makes sense especially with the lack of a proof cartouche on the slide. The serial number was then added to the slide to match the frame. That's my guess at least. Who knows???, but it makes for a good conversational piece, as well as an outstanding firearm.
 
FWIW:

Here's a close up of the proof marks on two of my surplus LSP P7's.

Both were "A" grades bought from CDNN, and the lower serial numbered (8632) actually came new, or perhaps "as new".. 17094 actually "looked new" also, but somehow just not quite the same as 8632, even tho the markings were sharper.

I like the "plum" tinted slide of the 17094.
