Just a sorta quickie range report ... as ever a session at the range is way better than work! RevDisk came over to visit .. quite some long trip too from out Lancaster County. Spent much of morning BS'ing over guns'n'stuff and got to range about noon. Not too warm but manageable.

Didn't take many pics but, gave him a good chance to try out some handguns, (as he is mainly experienced with assorted long arms - many being mil stuff!!) some hand cannons (BFR, SRH's) and other ass'd items ... mostly wheel guns (M625, M27), but we also excercized Storm, SW99, Contender, and I shot his Tikka .308 - oh and he tried (and liked) my FAL - and finally Papoose (had to finish with .22!). Near forgot - he tried my R9 ... which he found quite interesting.

So - here we are - my fave small range - all to ourselves. First pic is getting ready to rock ... the other pics are fun, because of his reaction to large cal wheelguns! Great session and further lengthy BS much of evening - so THR was a tad neglected until now! :)

Hope you had a safe run back Chris.

Oops - almost forgot to put pics on server - Duh!

Packing and unpacking Steve is a drag - always! But, gotta be done and anyways ...today we ''travelled light'' LOL.

Truck suspension?? It's only 1500 but - no probs - just inflate tires to 100PSI all round! There is always trailer too as an option!! :p

Back, save and sound. "Minor" detour due to an accident on the Turnpike, cops blockaded the entire Turnpike. Must have been pretty bad.

After much drooling, we picked out a multitude of fine weapons to fire. I'm rather new to revolvers. So, of course the first firearm we shot was a .45-70 BFR. I don't carry what P95, that's not meant to be pistol round! The recoil wasn't nearly as bad as what I thought it would be. After the .45-70, .454 and .44 Mag is nothing.

I admit, when I first saw a picture of the Storm... "Tupperware" comes to mind. Turned out to be a nifty weapon, sans the stock trigger. Dispite all the weapons I fired in the service, the FAL was something I never got to try. Great rifle, no idea why European militaries moved away from it. Comfy, low recoil, not too heavy. Naturally, now I want one.

Contender is an odd weapon, but very functional. It's extremely accurate. Takes a bit of getting used to. R9... I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. As a normal pistol, it's not comfy nor accurate. More I looked at it, put a few more rounds through it... It grows on you. It's a highly specialized weapon, pretty much the perfect sub-compact pistol. Rather interesting design. Has plenty of carbon fiber too.

I should probably get some sleep now. Geesh, road fries the brain. Now I need to buy a .45-70, a Storm and a FAL. P95 is a bad influence on my wallet. ;)

(PS, thanks again, P95. It was a blast. yuk yuk)

Glad you made it back Ok . that's a long haul. Hopefully the detour was not (seemingly) too thirsty on added time.

Hahaha . I am a bad influence - on my own wallet. :D

Good session ... :)

Chris,

It appears that your range is a whole lot more convenient than the one down here.....no hand trucks involved!

That FAL is sweet......after busting those clays from a standing position up at Water and Wings I'm sold on that gun......now just have to actually pay for one :p

Nice pictures of the hand cannons!

Looks like fun. So RevDisk where exactly are you located? Are you now sold on revolvers? Dad and I always disagree when it comes to revolvers and autos.

Glad y'all had fun.

Gus

I liked the hand cannons, of course. I need a .45-70 or a even wussy .454 now. As for sold on 'em. Not sure. I haven't fired that many rounds though revolvers, and all of my training is exclusively autos. I liked their reliability, and P95 was showing me some moves. Still, I'd have to practice a long time before I'd carry one as my CCW piece.

On the other hand, there's something to be said for CCW'ing a BFR. :neener:

Dang I missed it! PM me next time and I will share gas and blasters....
looks like fun.

It was kind of spur of the moment, but if there's another THR shoot here in PA, be glad to share a ride. Driving straight through isn't fun, be nice to switch off drivers.

However, I got a job offer in Mississippi. Being unemployed sucks, so unless I can find a local job within a short time frame, it looks like I'll be doing 5 months out west.

Sounds like a great range day! Chris always seems to go shooting and then rub it in when I'm sitting here working (and it's snowing outside).

I gotta ask a question though; Mississippi is out west?

Darn I thought the best part of seeing Chris come to the range was having everyone stare at the pile of guns and ammo on the hand truck. And if you two decide to have any more impromptu shoots over the next week lemme know. I'll be back in Indiana county for a week or so over the holidays.

Roger - now you come to mention it - that subject line did sorta suggest - a duel! LOL :D

Sorry Larry - not meant to rub it in . guess anyways we'll be in the snow very soon ....... sounds like Steve already has his 6"! MS ... out West? Hmmm well thinking about it no - I'd call that ''down South'', unless Chris (RevDisk) meant MO . have to check!!

Dave . Haha - the hand truck - I'll never live that down! :p Another shoot would be good but I can't (unfortunately) see any easy opportunity over the coming week or so . tho seeing as you will be relatively close it'd be a tempting proposition. Chris I think will be tied up for now too tho.

Main regular shooting right now is Weds .22 bowling pin shoots - lotta fun ... which is over in Hollidaysburg (Blair County).

Shoot or no shoot ... have a great holiday - and everyone else too. I may see if I can get a Spring shoot organized ... providing the range is free for a day when needed... that is the hard bit.

We need to add a Map section to the THR Resources.

Larry I am in the South. I have been in PA , driven all around...here is the problem, they have so many "Routes" and they color them..."Blue Routes , Red, Green, Polka Dots ..." you get the idea.

It is not their fault they don't know the compass, they use colors, ask how to get somewhere " take the Blue Route 5 miles , Stay right and take the Yellow for 9 more....then head UP the Green route.." Yeah I know the "UP" got me to snicker too.

Anything past the WVa line is West to them...no matter if you are headed to AR , TX, LA, or MS...it is all West to them.

:D

Chris ( RevDisk) , sorry I missed you , I usually nose in on what Chris (P95) has going on  , Also I can add a passel of revolvers to the " check it out " pile.

Speaking of which I went and shot at those doggone bowling pins with a 22 with Chris tonite , big fun. Of course I had to buy a new gun to get in on the game , now I find out it needs a Red Dot on top to be competetive (which Chris failed to tell me so I couldn't keep up with him ) :scrutiny: Met a whole lotta new folks, good crowd.

Rev you are completely right ~ time with Chris can be tough on the wallet , another night with Chris and I had to buy a new 22, now have to get a reddot mounted , then we're gonna shoot IDPA in the spring so I had to get a gun suitable for that, still need a holster and extra mags , then my wife is probably gonna take his NRA basic pistol course , then she's probably going to be wantin to shoot bowling pins , after she gets comfortable she'll probably want to try IDPA.

What's next dude ? Sporting Clays ?, Steel Challenge ? Bianchi cup open class ?? Yikes !

As always Chris , had a great time , thanks for the invite and looking forward to doing it again !

Ha, just gives me another excuse to head out your way!

(My definition of "Out west" is anything outside of New England or not touching the Atlantic Ocean.)

So soon! LOL

Tell ya what - and this would be VERY weather dependant ... next week .. wonder if - you came over, touching base with Brian .. to travel together. Then maybe get Dave (annapex) to drop down here from Indiana County . and Ray ... shucks, guess you'd be working (or would you?).

Just possible we could gather a ''team'' and make a range session. As I said tho, with snow in offing - very weather dependent. Wednesday would be out tho - Ray and I have bowling pins to destroy!

Ray ... writing up your ''blame'' (reasons) for all the new aquisitions, fault of yours truly! . Sorta feels like you'll be billing me soon! :D :D

Oh and ...
Steel Challenge ?
Yep - couple of those to come!! :p Not to mention some PPC!

Chris If something comes together from this , provided the weather is not nasty I could at the least blow a half day off, putting me in your neighborhood "noonish".

Of course i'm closer to Indiana county , so Anapex could hook up with me to get to you if this game of chinese checkers plays out in the wintertime :p

For those of you not in the loop here , my job is inversely related to the weather , the worse it gets the more I work !

Ray ... writing up your ''blame'' (reasons) for all the new aquisitions, fault of yours truly! . Sorta feels like you'll be billing me soon!

Now there's a thought ! Lemme get some numbers together ! :neener:

Ray

OK Ray - well ... maybe this could work.

Dave ... Chris (and indirectly Brian) .... let's have some thoughts. I wish I could predict weather ... make a fortune! If by latter part of next week it is just cold but not mega snow, then maybe Thursday or Friday we could do an afternoon deal. Friday is New Year's eve of course - not too important to me - I can still fire my .308 blanks at 11.59! :D

Ray - even if this happened and you needed time to get to range - you know where it is so could come on down and meet us there - could work.

So .... Annapex, Rev' ... feedback?

Chris, weather won't keep me from shooting that much, last year around Christmas the wife and I went out in about a foot of snow to go shooting  . As for those Wednesday bowling pin shoots I could probably make it to those too if they're going to have one the next Wednesday. I have a sister who lives in Hollidaysburg so it'd be a good excuse to get over there. Plus it only takes me about an hour to get there normally. Are they pistol or rifle shoots with a .22 though?

Dave ......... well of course ... your trip to Hollidaysburg would not be a lot longer than for Ray or me. Good thinking. It's pistol BTW .. the club indoor range.

Well - I've also shot in quite a bit of snow - so I guess I am less concerned re managing to shoot, as getting there, and getting in and out of range etc. There were times after a fresh and generous fall of snow when getting into the range, even 4wd .. was near impossible.

Back to the Weds ...... not sure how well you know the area - but reckon I'd better send you some directions to range - maybe even touch base over phone. PM me a # and I'll try and get hold of you.

Maybe we could tentatively plan a shoot on the Thursday or Friday - based in part as a decision, on forecast etc.
