"panic prices" on SKS's

Ive seen a few with 375 400 price tags but they are selling at those prices. 200 to 225. I bought two at a dept store for 89.00 ea. some years ago. They were chinese junk.
 
When Samco raised their price to $169 for the unissued Yugo SKS about 2 years or so ago I panicked. Bought three. These days Big 5 sells them for around $300 for VG condition.
 
Seeing them for $240 here in AR. Grabbed a like new Norinco SKS M (takes AK Mags) for $239 on saturday.
 
About 2 months ago I got a Norinco one as a gift for my step father at 200$, Last time I was in the shop I think the ones they had were around 300 and up. The one I have, which my father (this one biological to not confuse anyone) got me about 2 years ago only was around 150$, it's a Yugo 59/66.
 
The last one I sold over the summer went for $250. I thought that was high but the customer wanted it.
Yesterday I ordered one that I'll sell for $299. I have resisted buying any because the price has gotten so high. But if people want them, they want them.
Where are you going to get a semi auto carbine with that kind of reliability for under $300?
 
I don't know that it's all panic buying. Prices on SKSs have been going up for a few years.

A friend of mine raved about how he wanted one so bad, and then changed his mind halfway through stripping off the cosmoline. I bought it from him for $100.

number 1. good to see another arky, and ive only seen them upwards of 300 now.
number 2. where in the world did you find a norinco sks m?!? the only ones i have seen are upwards of 500!

I saw one, but I didn't catch the price. If I remember correctly, it was pretty fair.
 
We were was purchasing these by the CASE for as little as $75 each for Norinco Chinese cheapies as recently as 2005.
Sigh.
 
Bought a Norinco the other day, $350 OTD with transfer. I thought that was really to expensive and should've bought another saiga. I was stoked to find out it came with some extras like a laser and a 20rd chinese "star" mag (worth about $50).

Pawn shops with Yugos seem to be oblivious of the inflated prices, still about $215. The one where I bought my SKS and Saiga .308 still had a new Saiga .308 21" for the relatively reasonable price of $435. They are all sold out of WASR's though. No shortage of AR's around, same old prices. The sportman's shop slowly inflated prices on WASR's over the past few months. They were $450, $550, then sold out for a while, and now there's one for an amazing $650! I think not!
 
Last time I looked at a Russina SKS, it was a whopping 79.00 and they were stacked floor to ceiling in crates.
