Bought a Para LDA CCO gently used for $575. It looked brand new and I think I know why. The magazines misfeed every time you use them. On the last round the round would flip up during feeding and either jam against the face of the chamber or sometimes flip straight up so that the slide would slam shut on the side of the round while the bullet was sticking out of the ejection port. :what: This happened with 3 different kinds of HP AND 3 different kinds of ball ammo. Ball ammo! Everything is supposed to feed ball ammo! The gun came with 2 mags and both did it. Talked to the guys at the range about it and they handed me a wilson mag. Problem solved. Not a single misfeed with the wilson mag.

And no, I haven't had a chance to call Para yet. I just tried the Wilson mag today. But I'll be giving them a call on Mon morning.

I'd heard that Para mags could be problematic but this is ridiculous. Is this level of malfunction common in their weapons? I like the feel of the LDA action and overall feel of the weapon but I just couldn't bring myself to buy another one if this kind of thing is a persistant issue.

epijunkie67,

I bought a NIB Para Carry 12 last year. It came with one 10 round mag which worked fine. I ordered two Para 12 round mags and one of those would not lock the slide when empty. On suggestions from members of the 1911 Forum, I ordered Wolff mag springs.

Since installing the Wolff springs, I've had no problems and the pistol has 1,000 rounds through it, both factory and my 200 gr lead SWC reloads. My son-in-law had one FTF with WW 230 gr white box ammo but that could have been shooter induced.

The 1911 Forum had a wealth of info re: Para's. Unfortunately, it is down/gone. There were a number of posts about the CCO and the TacFour. Since I don't have those models, I didn't pay too much attention to the posts. I bought a used Para C6.45 and immediately replaced the recoil and mag springs before even shooting it. It has 500 rounds of factory and reloaded ammo through with no problem.

What type of follower was on the magazine? I have two different types on my Para mags and thankfully, both work.

I second trying Wolff springs and seeing if the mag works better after that. Cheaper than buying all replacements.

You can also try to conatct George Wedge @ Para. He's in Canada. Para has a repair facility in TN but I don't have the phone number and with the 1911 Forum down, I can't look for it.

I recently experienced a slight problem with one of my 16.40 magazines. I bought some Arrendondo kits with new followers, springs and +2 basepads. On one magazine the new follower would not go up high enough to activate the slide stop. The feed lips seem slightly tighter then on my other mags. The factory follower also sets lower then on the other mags but at least it functions perfectly?
