I am thinking about a trade for one of these pistols, have read on line reviews. Some are good and some are pretty bad. Does anyone here have a hands on opinion ?

I have the black "painted" Gi Expert. I had a problem with the gun when I first bought it new. The slide stop was too small where it goes through the barrel link. The magizine follower would push it out instead of up. I contacted Para's customer service and it was useless. They did offer to look at the gun but shipping would be on my dime. The worse part was the two people that I finally got to talk to acted like they couldn't care less and suggested that I should just buy another slide stop. I bought a new slide stop and the gun has ran 100% since then. It is a range gun and I havent shot factory ammo throught it. I will not tell you to stay away from para, but I will from now on based on their customer service.

Thanks #2 for the info. I've read too many bad stories on these particular models. The pistol I looked at came in a too sweet deal. So, think I will pass on it.

I've never heard anything good about para's customer service.

There is a very big gun store in mass that won't carry them anymore due to frequent problems and terrible customer service.

There are lots of 1911's out there. I'd keep looking.

I'd look at a Rock Island Armory 1911. Their quality is about average and some of their small parts (extractors and the like) have issues occasionally but their customer service is superb and the majority of their guns are reliable and accurate.
