Are there do's and don'ts as to maintaining a Parkerized finish. I have a new 1911 that I want to clean but don't want to screw anything up.

For both blued and stainless guns I use a compound called Tetra. It does a great job preserving and protecting the finish. Not sure it's the thing to use on a Parkerized finish.

I put Eezox on my wipe down rags and use it on everything.

Parkerizing is really no different than anything else. Just doesnt shine or show fingerprints like bluing does.

I have a lot of parkerized guns and a career in the Army and have never thought beyond simple oils for "maintenance" of a parked finish.

On the rare occasions that I might deviate, it is premium product/time expenditure like Renaissance wax.

Note though, RW can profoundly change the look of phosphate or parkerized finishes. These CZs were twins prior to my waxing one with many..... MANY coats of RW. Guess which one?:D My crappy photo skills do not do justice to the *pretty* one.

Todd.

I use Tetra Gun Grease on the parts that slide (such as the rails) and 5w30 Mobil1 motor oil on what pivots (such as trigger and hammer pins). The motor oil is free as I drain the last few drops of oil from the container when I change the oil in my vehicles. For Parkerized parts I just oil them with Mobil1 occasionally.
