Hello the camp! I find myself with a small oversupply of powder coated .32 projectiles and an undersupply of reasons not to send 'em downrange. But my only .32 is an antique, so black powder required. Am I asking for trouble?

I can't imagine why you would be asking for trouble in a cartridge revolver. Powder coated bullets are subjected to the same heat with black powder that smokeless has. 'Smokeless powder may make more heat.
I'm basing this on the fact that you are loading a cartridge revolver and not a cap and ball.
Cap and ball would be a completely different situation.
I would much prefer high tech coated bullets to powder coat but again with cartridges I can't think of a single reason why powder coated bullets in a black powder cartridge revolver would make a difference.

I guess it would depend on the makeup of the PC. I know some have mentioned running modern lube with black powder without problem. I figure paint would not jive with BP fouling too well but don't know of anyone who has tried.

I shoot powder coated out of my Trapdoor. With smokeless no lube. With black powder i use 50/50 beeswax olive oil lube on them. You will still have to lube them when using black powder.

What happens if you don't. I used to use Liquid alox coated bullets with black powder and it always worked fine with out any additional lube.

I'm just asking?
BP lube does two jobs. First it prevents leading. Second it keeps the blackpowder fouling soft.
You might lose accuracy more quickly, or have a more difficult time cleaning.

I haven’t been doing the black powder thing for that long. However I have seen the results of using no lube or the wrong lube on black powder rifles. After a few shots without wiping the barrel it was a crusty mess that took a lot of cleaning and it couldn’t hit the side of the proverbial barn. I’ve never seen what would happen in a short handgun barrel using pc bullets or alox.
