Pee-Wee Coach Accused Of Shooting Player's Dad For Pulling Son

MONTGOMERY, Ala -- Police are looking for a 20-year-old pee-wee football coach accused of shooting the father of one of his players because the dad pulled his son from the team.

It happened shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday at a housing project near downtown Montgomery. Lt. Huey Thornton, a Montgomery police spokesman, said Timothy Campbell, 32, was shot in the lower back during the altercation.

Thornton said the unidentified coach apparently was upset that Campbell and his wife pulled their 12-year-old boy from the YMCA-sponsored team as part of a punishment.

Campbell's wound was not life-threatening and he was treated and released.


A YMCA spokesman said the coach was a volunteer and will be banned from pee-wee football.

Nope. I used to umpire little league baseball, and some of the parents of 7/8 year olds were quite unruly. For a perceived bad call, they would yell, scream, and curse at me. I had to threaten to throw them out of the park or their son's team would forfeit. A lot of parents just can't understand it is a game for the kids to have fun. I was never shot though

When my son was in YMCA Tball every parent would have to go out on to the field, hold hands and recite a sportsmanship and good behaviour oath before anyone was allowed to play.


Maybe it helped...I dunno but luckily only the 6 year olds threw fits.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dad shot the coach, but the coach shooting the dad?! He, of all people, should understand the point behind pee-wee football. I guess some people can get a tad too competative.

See, this is all the more reason to keep your kids from sports like football and soccer and peak their interests in areas like, oh, I don't know, guns, maybe??

I know I enjoyed playing little league baseball as a kid, but my parents have told me that they would have pulled me out in a heartbeat if I hadn't. They did not like how cruel some of those parents were yelling at the coaches as well as other people's kids.

I remember a father who would park behind homeplate with a rule book and constantly argue with calls.

All of my 5 sons and 1 daughter played sports. Baseball and soccer were the games.

I pulled one of my off the soccer team beacuse of his grades and would not allow him to play for the rest of the season. He was a star forward and the coach agreed with me, he is of the mind that the grades come first.

As far as the parents actions during the games, both baseball and soccer, was very bad. It was from " why is my son/daughter not playing the whole game?" to
"you (the coach) play your favorites", etc.

When their "precious" child is called on a foul they are almost ready to fight. There is a constant swearing and name callin from the sidelines even though this is forbidden. When they are called on this they are ready to fight.

Every game has a policeman on duty.

I did sport's though none seriously

Played a season had fun moved on. Been through Soccer, baseball, and floor hockey. Oddly enough given my size everyone peg's me for a linebacker and I never once played in a football league lol.

But yes me and my mother both would give odd look's at some of the parent's and kid's with some of the idiocy they came out with. And it isn't always the parents its often enough some snot nosed kid thats been babyed his entire life and has a me complex. That and you have kids that are good but take it way to seriously and push themselves to hard. Remember the final game of the season for the baseball team I was on (all wins with the exception of a draw, no losses) and the other team really wanted to beat us. Thier pitcher was warned three times to take it easy and wound up not having the chance for a fourth cause he threw his arm out.

It is suppsoed to be fun but it is way to competative.

I have to wonder what exactly is wrong with youth coaches and parents. Its not like they are playing for a pretigeous trophy or a million dollar contract. I played tavern league softball for a few years in college on a fraternity team at that. You'd think that there would be fights, arguments, and even shootings when young adults in the prime of their lives play for their very lifeblood: free beer if they win. Nope, never happened, everyone got along, the refs didn't get heckled either.

My sister did get the shaft in highschool. She ran track for 3 years and in her junior year broke the school 800 meter run record that had held up for 24 years. She got her name on the big prominent track records board that is in the entrance of the school. The next year, she went out for golf instead of track. The Track coach was so pissed, that he took her name off the board and put the old record back up. Pretty darn petty if you ask me.

When grownups play in sports they are playing for themselves. When some kids play, they are playing to make up for the pathetic failures of their parents, and when the kid doesnt "make the grade" its like a compounding of that previous failure (i.e. you couldnt play ball when you were a kid, and you cant properly father a child now). Further proof that idiots should not be allowed to raise children.
