But just shy of 2K rounds thru it , I am noticeing some peening going on .:(

On the slide.Right at the stop catch there is a steel pin driven in there.
I circled the peening .

Ok with droping the slide with the catch I can understand. I mean at 2 K rounds that's 200 slide drops at least .
But with the frame starting to peen a little I am getting worried.

So far it has three malfuctions in 2k rounds . I can live with that failure rate for a .22lr. But is this going to be a problem?

I didn't see this gun when it was brand new so I don't know how much it has peened since than . Anybody else have this going on?Should I look into sending it outto S&W? Or should I just not sweat it and shoot er till she goes belly up?

P.S. Yes I know that it is filthy. That is after 520 rounds with out cleaning in a day .

Not too many folks post much between 2 AM and noon (EST). You know, work and all.;)

The peening in the frame I have seen on mine (5"). It was being casued by the firing pin safety as it slides by. My P22 was having quite a bit of failures and I had attributed them to the burr from the peening. What I did was actually scrape the burr (not file or grind, scrape) with a cheap chinese folding knife. The metal of the part was soft enough that I could scrape the burr off with a knife easily. This had cured the functioning problem with my gun. Why that little bump in the frame is in there in the first place I do not know. I can't think of any function it would do.
