Help! A month or so ago a read an evaluation of peep sights installed on an HK USP series pistol. Foolishly, I didn't bookmark the site and now I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can anyone point me in the right direction?

Had a set of the Enterprise Arms sights on a USP 45F (Brownells stocks them).

Great for fast shooting, but not so good for any level of precision. I got the ones with the front and rear Trijicon inserts. If I were to do it again, I'd leave the rear sight blank and get the set with the bulb in the front sight only.

They're made from very soft iron, so make sure you fit it properly into your slide's dovetail before you drive it home: too tight and it will mar the sight.

PHSDC in Raleigh had a Glock setup for this a couple years ago, Kirk. Nice setup, but I wouldn't want it for accuracy work. They did pick up pretty quickly, though. I forget who made them, but the front sight was a fiber optic in red.

I'm considering a ghost ring set for my HK USP 45 Compact, my carry pistol. Primary consideration will definitely be for target acquisition and working 50 yards and in.

fatboyclone pointed to the set I was considering over at Enterprise Arms.

I've never used ghost rings other than on my AR, so I'm interested in hearing if anyone has used them extensively. My HK compact currently has 3 dot sights, non- night and non-adjustable, so most anything will be an improvement.

Fed - maybe I'll give Mike a call and see if his smith did the rings on that glock.

Larryw,

I looked at those Enterprise sights and I don’t understand how they wouldn’t work for more accurate shooting as well. They had three dot systems that seemed like they would be at least as good as some other non-peep type system. Am I missing something?

I have had these on my USP45 for almost 2 years now. They are just as accurate as the standard 3 dot sights the pistol came with. Target aquisition is very fast with these, and after a lil bit of practice it is faster. All in all i am very happy with these and would not trade them for any other sights. For what you are looking for I think you'll like them a lot.

If you shoot based on the three dots, it kinda defeats the purpose of the ring, no? None the less, coupled with the lack of a rear notch to help alignment, I found the spacing of rear dots too far apart for this purpose.

For SD purposes and ranges, these sights are fine. Past 50 feet, I much prefer standard sights.

Peep sights of any kind operate because the eye automatically centers the peep to the eye. To do this the peep must be close to the eye. Forward mounted on a long gun , or on a handgun the peep doesn't work properly. The best sight for handguns is still the Patridge. Mr Patridge studied how the eye works, with that knowledge he developed his sight.
