I've recently renewed my interest in target shooting paper targets with airguns, and this time around I got some sampler packs to find out which pellets were "best". Turns out, each of my airguns prefers different kinds of pellets and figuring out which each gun liked showed me very noticeable improvements! I also had a great time trying all the different types out in each gun, it added another dimension to my target shooting. Even my budget guns benefited.

Here are the Sampler Packs I know about, would love to hear your experiences with different brands of pellets and also if you tried any sampler packs yourself.

H&N Sport Field Target Pellets. All domed.
Get two of the most useful and accurate domed pellets made today by one of the top pellet makers in the world. Some air guns prefer larger pellet heads, and this H&N sampler pack lets you determine which your airgun prefers and which delivers the best accuracy.

I haven't tried this one yet but it's interesting because this one is multiple brands.

I didn't realize that H&N offered a sampler of field target pellets. IME, I think that sampler has the most value since they offer different head sizes. In the past, I'd used a couple of the Straight-shooters samplers and, while they include a lot of different shapes, they aren't specific about head diameter. Their focus seems to be more on pellet weight.

Plus many of the shapes are (to me) downright silly/useless. Like pointed pellets and .177 roundball. I still have a few sampler cases that are about 25% full of pellets that I'll never have a need for.

I too have tried a couple of sampler packs just to find what my rifle prefers without buying 500 of something, just to find that it isn't the one. I like the idea but some suppliers help you more than others. Just a lesson from my experience. I've got the RWS and the JSB DIABLO packages. The biggest problem with the JSB pack is that to open it I ended up cutting off the description info. for each type pellet. Now I have 4 types of pellets and not sure which is which. I did look up each type individually and marked properly, then put into seperate containers, but it was a hassle. The RWS has a picture of each type on the lid so you know what you have. That is handy as the lid doesn't fit tight enough to prevent mixing of pellets after repeated openings. SO I like the idea and practice of trying all kinds of pellets but be sure you can mark or seperate each type so when you find the "sweet one" you know what it is.
