Went to Wal-Mart today, usually pick up a tin of CCI 11 caps each time I am in there. Shelf had some Pyrodex at 36 bucks a pound, no caps plus the modern cartridges shelf was stripped bare. I see a bad moon rising.

$36 for Pyrodex?! Thats insane! Id never pay or use that stuff but that is almost double the price!

The folks paying that are the hunters who shoot a few practice rounds for the hunt and the hunt It’s self then put the gun away for the next season. A pound will last several years. Many of us shoot like others play golf, weekly. :)

The price on the shelf could have been a mistake or it could have been entered into the store computer wrong.
Anything is possible but Walmart doesn't usually try to gouge people on purpose.

You could be right, that's the price on the shelf below the powder, they had 6 cans that have been there the last few times I was in the lousy place.... get the impression I don't like Wally world?

Cap sizes:
I believe this subject has been discussed elsewhere, but I haven't come across search terms to point me to a still-accessible chart. I did some basic measurements on CCI #10 and CCI #11 caps, 6 each.

CCI #10: Outside diameter measured between .172" and .173"; height .167" to .168".
CCI #11: Outside diameter measured between .1765" (that's what my caliper display said) and .178"; height varied from .166" to .1675"

So there's essential no difference in height, and about .005" difference in diameter. I expected a larger difference. But, on a friction-fit interface, .005" can be significant.

I will measure some Remington #10s when I get 'em.

Edit: Just found a chart. Pretty much reflects my findings I think: very little diff in height, a few thou in diameter.

Remington #10 caps came in; picked them up from Cabela's yesterday. I measured a few last night. I think that because of the different design of the Remingtons vs. the CCI that they aren't as consistent in size. Diameter range was .181 to .1875; spread in height was .1665 to .176 (only one was < .171).

I had bought 1000 of the RWS 1075 plus from Midway on sale a few months back.
They actually work better than the recommended Remington 11s in my NAA Super Companion and they work perfect in my Vest Pocket Derringer.

Mako did all of the measurements for me (us) years ago on CAS City... I don’t have the time nor inclination to measure them myself. Remington tens fit on all of the pistols and elevens fit the rifles and shotguns. If they’re too small, the nipples get chucked into the drill press and massaged until they do fit as close to perfect as I can manage. I used to use cci in both sizes but the “new” Remington caps are far superior in my opinion.

I didn't read all of this, but I too was worried about a shortage when I checked the Bass Pro website for my local store. Went by a few days later, and they were swimming in 10 and 11 caps even though their website said none were in stock. Even shocked to see a very small assortment of smokeless powder.

these are troubling times, the local Wally world either sold out on caps or pulled them from the shelf. These coneheads also pulled all the pistol ammo last year. Right now there's a half dozen boxes of 12 gauge promo boxes on the shelf, no common rifle ammo , no .22 s on the shelves, no toilet paper, paper plates, paper towels. Looks like preparation for a Hiding Biden administration has begun.

Some of the Sheels stores have either CCI Magnum or Winchester magnum caps in stock for in store pick up.
Their product page makes it easy to check their chain's inventory.
Just click on change store and then only show available stores and more stores.

Its good to hear a lot of folks took advantage of the uncle mikes nipples...i didnt think anyone would care when i posted on where to get them cheap lol
I just ordered 5 sets for my "58" NMA and 2 "51" Navys plus a couple extra cylinders because the RWS caps were just a tad loose on the stock Pietta nipples and I really don't like having to pinch them on... Plus my rifles already use #11's so win win with only having to get one size... Plus Plus RWS was all I could find... Thanks Kid, you truly are a fount of great advice!!!

So here's an update on the Uncle Mikes... On the Remington they fit great and pop caps nicely, but on the 2 Colts the nipples sit a bit too low for the hammer to make contact so it would seem that the stock cones are just a smidge taller than the new ones... I ended up with a quick fix that seems to work well, I have some thin wire and made a single wrap around the inside like a washer and that raised the cone up high enough for the hammer to strike nicely... Now how long they last is the next test but they should be fine for at least a few tear downs and if not then its an easy fix until I can find some suitable washers... The RWS are a good fit on them though and overall I'm pretty happy...
