well i only own one rifle and thats a marlin 1895 cowboy in 45/70 and i use it to put food on my table.i have shot everything from wolves to grizzley bear with that rifle,and it has dropped em all this is a damn fine rifle for my needs.

Interesting question. I vote for the Mauser--chiefly because almost every bolt-action made in the last 100 years owes at least a little, in many cases a lot, to Paul Mauser's brainchild.
They're still available today--either as unissued military real Mauser, or commerical real Mauser, or commercial knock-off, for example the Ruger M77, or the CZ in 7.62x39. (That's the only CZ I've handled, and am not familiar with CZ's model numbers.)
There are only a few really brilliant originators in firearms design: Colt, Whitney, Mauser, Browning, Garand, Simonov, Kalashnikov, and Stoner come to mind. And the guy that came up with the flintlock, and the one who originated the percussion cap.

Probably the semi-auto action of my Saiga. Nothing like a good "thwump" from a .308 plus the fun of an AK. The fact that it looks like a poor man's SVD is fun, too.

Hmmm... Pet action type favorite style? That's tough. 
I really like the simplicity and handiness of a good lever-action, particularly Marlins of all flavors. They just have a kind of persona about them that says, "Yeah, I can handle it." And they're relatively easily affordable, which is more than I can say of my other choice (see below). Plus they have more than a century of history. While not super accurate or long ranged, they can be very practical and useful tools.
But then again, I love AR-15s just for being what they are: accurate, soft-shooting, ergonomic and fast. Of course, soft shooting comes at the price of power. Naturally, more power can be had on the platform, at a cost. And the cost is the big turn-off, the reason I don't have half-a-dozen of them in everything from .223 match rifle to a .50 Beowulf stomper to a 6.8mm tactical carbine to a 9mm plinker/house gun to a... See my point?
So I guess flip a coin and check on the ol' checkbook for preference there! :banghead:

In bolts I am a fan of the Savage action (3 position tang safety, Accutrigger, etc.), in fact I am awaiting a barrel for a custom project I'm working on, building a hunting rifle in .358 Win. Also, I like the Winchester M70.
In autos, I like the M1 action. I would take a Socom or M1A over an AR anyday.

I think the neatest rifle action I've ever seen / held was a "Low wall" winchester in .22LR. Although it chambered the humble rimfire, it closed with the authoritive motion of a well designed mechanism.

Probrobly be the Lee action. Sure its not as strong as the Mauser and so on, but it has a significant advantage of speed, its far easier to fix headspace problems merely by screwing on a new bolthead. It can be cycled quieter than most others when need be, reliable as you could possibly need and pretty accurate to boot. Cycles alot easier to me too. Its very hard for them to get stiff and hard to open the bolt and the pull back is rather easy.
Just wish it was used in more rifles nowadays apart from military enfields and custom jobs.

I'm undecided ... yet.
It could be bolt (as in CZ 452),

Claude Etienne Minié-he designed the hollow base conical bullet that ushered in a new era of accuracy and range ("mini ball").
My favorite action would have to be the Remington M700. Though Mauser type with claw is smoother, the M700 is very uncluttered and clean.
Might I ask why? While I like the fast action of a Carcano, it is notably one of the weakest designs in turn bolt guns.
Why? Because they're light, handy, and almost universally detested.(Hence cheap.) They also chamber a decent round, and can easily be rechambered to a few other handy rounds.And yes, there is a more than a wee bit of WOP blood in my veins. I'm doing a Beretta 38 action up in .257 Roberts currently. As to the action being one of the weakest, I believe good ole Major Ackley would beg to differ. While it's certainly no large ring 98, it's no shoulder fired hand grenade either. Here is a 1917 Brescia Moschetto per Truppe Speciali in 7.62x39. The 17.5 inch barrel makes it REALLY handy.

"I got to use my " 7.8 x 56 mm " Light weight Carcano hunting today. I ended up using .321 dia 170 bullets in a cutdown 30/06 case with the rim rebated to .448 . That was the only bullet size that could be shot in my carbines barrel with out overpressure, I had to rebate the rims for the cases to feed and fit the boltface. My hunting load is the 170 gr flatnose at 2350 fps. Here is a photo of the 200 lb wild boar shot at about 70 yards and the rifle. The bullet went through both shoulders, got the heart, and was found in pieces under the far side skin. mag"
