Petition to stop EPA from shutting down last lead smelter in USA

Hello guys, I am trying to get this petition out to protect the last lead smelter in the United States capable of producing lead bullion which is used to produce our ammunition, car batteries, tire balancers, and many other necessities.

It's the last primary lead smelter. The products you describe are primarily sourced from secondary lead smelting. Further, the EPA didn't shut down Doe Run's primary lead smelter at Herculaneum, Mo. Doe Run chose not to upgrade the lead smelter and they announced in 2010 that they would shut down the smelter this year. This was a business decision that Doe Run Company made.

While it is great you want to get involved and take action to start a petition, as a general rule the best approach is to avoid the whitehouse.gov site as a way to accomplish anything. The site is a way to get the attention of the Office of the President on an issue and doesn't actually cause prompt broad political pressure to be brought. Other sites like those put up by the firearms manufacturers accomplish those goals better.

To be specific about this issue - Uga is correct. The hyperbole about the Doe Run smelter having anything to do with ammunition production has been debunked by the ammunition manufacturers themselves.
