I, like many others found the poll to have way too many redundancies in the options. Personally I chose Option #1 because I liked the combination of the Glock 19, USP 45, and especially the Colt Python as that would give me an HD/viable CC (19), a devoted home defense (USP), and a "woods gun" (Python).
I like the thread though, and it got me thinking If I were to be limited to five handguns, it would be a difficult choice, so I decided on the following possibilities:
Option #1: This this would be my set if price of ammo and ammo interchangeability were not a factor.
1911 (might switch for large bore revolver)
9mm or 40s&w polymer duty sized (XD, Glock, etc)
380 pocket pistol, most likely Kahr or Ruger
S&W J frame
Ruger Single Six 22 LR/Mag convertible (I see a lot of you putting down 22/45s instead, those are great guns but I personally prefer this one for its cartridge versatility and pest control capabilities)
Option #2: This is what I would pick if I wanted the most versatile group that used the fewest number of different calibers.
Glock 19
Beretta Nano/Ruger LC9/Kahr
S&W J frame
Ruger GP-100
Ruger Single Six 22 LR/Mag convertible
I personally feel that this option would cover almost all my bases while only requiring 3 different cartridges (four if you count 357). However, it is far from perfect and results may vary.
