after reading some of the horror stories, I'd almost decided to forego the solo

my local shop had one come in while i was there, however, and i couldn't resist - i was in the market for a small 9mm

little oil on the rails and took it out on the range with a couple boxes of the recommended cor-bon and federal premium 124gr hp self defense rounds

no problems of any kind, accurate, but the recoil was punishing with the recommended rounds

also tried a box of standard 115gr fmj with it - again, no problems and much more pleasant to shoot

agree with one of the other commenters that the gun is a little slippery with that kimpro finish and without front strap checkering

overall nice size, pretty and accurate

How do you like the sites (what kind of sites)? What distance to target - are you happy with the groupings?

The derned internet is a stinking echo-chamber. A few bad experiences are made known to every corner of the Earth, but they are not likely representative of the average user's experience.

    sights are nice

three white dot, like on the kimber 1911s - easy to acquire

    trigger is very nice

i didn't shoot from rest, so you'd have to look elsewhere for an authoratative declaration on its accuracy, but the gun was accurrate shot at about 25' most consistent hits within a couple of inches - any lack of accuracy on this one is easily explained by shooter inaccuracy, recoil and that slippy grip

lost all interest in the Solo.

    Beretta's Nano took its place.

Even if the Solo's issues are exagerated, which i am not so sure, what did you pay for it?

They are $800 + around here and the best I have heard, again the internet unprovability aside, was $650 ish.

That's a lot of $ for a pocket gun with a perfect record, which this one does not currently have.

    Solo

I have mixed feelings about the Solo. Maybe it's the all metal construction but to me it is the best looking of the latest batch of mini 9s. I don't like being told what ammo to use, however I think that is an insight as to how difficult it is to design and build this powerful a platform in this small a space. I am happy to hear it ran with the 115grn Wallyworld stuff.

Am I the only one that wonders why Colt didn't re-introduce the Mustang chambered in .380 AND 9mm?

    price was $725 all in

agreed that's a lot of money for an essentially unproven platform - categorize this as a purchase of opportunity if not impulse

also agreed on the "recommended ammo" issue - it's annoying

i haven't posted pictures, but i'll see what i can do

Bam, how's that Nano? have you had a chance to compare the two?

Didn't they get sued over patent infringement on the Mustang?

I think that was a rumor, not sure. I thought the Mustang preceeded Kahr Arms.

    Guess it was true.

I heard they weren't even starting on production of the all stainless version until well into 2012.

Hope you are wrong but am afraid you might be correct. Seems like Kimber isn't saying anything.

I have several 9mm handguns and have found that loaded down rounds are just not accurate. I have a kimber 45 custom carry II and downloaded rounds work, I will stick with that.

Congrats on the Solo. Hopefully Kimber will make the 8rd mag available soon so we can get full size grips and it stops slipping in the hands. Even with slightly thicker wood grips and front/back grip tape, it still slips a bit in the hand believe it or not.

Had a LGS guy tell me that he recently got to handle a Nano and it was about the size of a G26. If that's the case the Nano is completely off my interest list. The Solo is only slightly bigger than a P238 and much smaller than a G26.

I don't know about the 9mm, but there is a full page ad on page 35 of the newest Combat Handguns magazine (Feb2012) for a Colt .380 auto Mustang Pocketlite

    NICE, but...

OH GOD! IT'S SCRATCHED!!! Are you sure you still want it?

How could you even entertain the idea of defending youself with a damaged firearm? It's incomprehensible!

I have been, on occasion, called a nice guy, and for that reason I am willing to take it off your hands for the price of an LC9 just so you won't have to throw it out. I know, Iknow, don't thank me.

    Thanks for posting the pics.

If your talking about my pics, thanks! :)

The scratch on the front was when I tried to cut down a Wilson Combat aluminum checkered strap made for a 1911. It didn't hold that well under the grips so I decided to just use grip tape. The frame finish is pretty fragile.

I will when I actually get a Nano in hand, but seeing that Solo above compared to a P238 has captured my interest again somewhat.

BUT... ultimately it might come down to trigger and price. Kimber may have worked out the kinks, but the Solo's tainted launch, not to mention Kimber's lack of faith in its own product by only offering a 1 year warranty isn't enough to get me to spend that much on it.
