Picked up another SKS.

It had some powder fouling mostly. And was dry. I didn't notice any cosmoline.
If you are at all concerned about slam-fires with soft commercial primers, you should find the firing pin channel is actually machined for a pin tension spring, they were just never fitted to most production rifles because oil and debris would build up in there and harden in cold weather, causing issues.
Often, a ball-point pen spring will work.

As long as the bolt is kept clean and you're not shooting in winter battlefield conditions, you should be fine.

Looks good! Seems like a good price in this day & age. Let us know how it shoots after you've had it out a couple times. Those things can become habit forming, I never considered myself an SKS fan until just after I got my third one. Then I realized how easily they can grow on you. I used to reload 7.62x39 but haven't in a few years; can't recall offhand what primers I was using but I haven't had a slamfire (yet). I'll have to check my reloading notes.

Coal Cracker Al : Update from my previous post with regard to primers; back when I was loading for the SKS everything was with CCI large rifle primers except for one load with Remington 9 & 1/2 large rifle primers. This was all 13 to 17 years ago; who knows if the primer cups today are the same thickness as back then? I was loading soft point bullets around the 123 gr. weight range with the idea of a nice little woods rifle for deer season with a state required 5 round magazine. Due to some of the ballistic similarities between 7.62x39 and the 30-30. Never got as much velocity as my 150 gr. 30-30 loads and my Marlin 30-30 was more accurate. Wound up just sticking with the Marlin 30-30. Still have the 5 round SKS magazine. IMG_0679.JPG . When it was on the gun it worked but I can't call it 100% reliable. If you or any other THR members would like to get a 5 rd. SKS mag. here's your chance. I'm still cleaning out the man cave and it's available for shipping cost. Perhaps it could be more reliable with a little tweaking. Hope the mods don't shut me down for getting too far off topic. We're still talking SKS here.

In Pa were not allowed semi-auto for big game yet. I think it's coming though. Were now allowed for small game and varmints. At one time it was not allowed at all.

A slam-fire Killed an SKS owner in California.

The article was in "The Sacramento Bee" newspaper", which might have been pasted on THR. I didn't read how the multi-round slam-fire caused the rifle's muzzle to get under his jaw. It didn't explain.
