Like Mr. McCracken said, fighting guns should be light, simple and show evidence of being well used...

Here is one but its heavy. It was like a 28" barrel with a Cutts on the end. That lasted around 5 minutes and its still heavy with a 20" barrel, Marlin 120.

I have four tactical/defensive shotguns ... the VERSA MAX and A-TACS shown below, an 870 Express Synthetic 7-Round and a '97 Winchester "Riot" shotgun also shown below.

Mossberg 12ga 20" with ext mag tube. Knoxx recoil reduction/adjustable stock. Red dot sight. A step above Mossberg's simplicity.

As is the general consensus, I say keep it really simple. KISS is the name of the game. The best example of that is probably a SXS 20" 20 or 12GA. I like stoegers but no one else seems to. Look into the Stoeger Double Defense. Many say that it's just plain heresy, but I see a huge tactical application for it.

Remington 870 HD, 18" 6+1 with tritium ghost rings, 4 round side saddle, knoxx stock and a mounted flashlight (still need to get the pressure switch for it)

Cuttin down an a5 like that should be a crime. Get a good fittin shouldering gun and learn to shoot well with it. Don't worry if it's painted black if it was the same as you saw out of a video game. It's the same shell regardless of the gun it came out of. Contrary to why I seem to see very one at the range "training" for I doubt there will ever be in an extended firefight inside of your home 4+1 rounds should be more than enough. But then again maybe I'm just a grumpy kid who never latched onto the "tactical" side of things.
For SouthernWake. Old school isn't bad, it's just old. I'm pretty old skool too and even I had to get with the program myself. I bought a new Mossy 500, and finally figured out it needed some trinkets! I've got arthitis in my hands, mostly fingers and wrists, and front and rear pistol grips really helped me hold and rack the slide. The stock, horizontal type of forend is just an uncomforable postition for my wrists now that I'm 55. Same with side saddles, it's just a lot easier to have the ammo right there where you need it. I always figured I'd just throw some in my pocket and go scare the troublemakers away. Not so. My buddies laughed when I discovered the advantages of a reticle sight. For a shotgun. Yes. My eyes aren't so good these days, and a few years back I was awakened from a dead sleep by some outside problems and I'll tell you, I had a terrible time getting the 'sleep' out of my eyes to focus on pistol sights. With the reticle sight, it's both eyes open and the clearest and fastest aquisition of target I've ever had. Maybe not for everybody, but great for me. To each his own I guess. Then I found an adjustable rear stock turned out the best way to get that darn gun up to my shoulder the fastest without snagging clothing etc. Again, I learned something. After that, I never ever thought I would hang a laser off the end of my gun. NEVER!!!!! But lo' and behold', that turned out to be one of the fastest and greatest ways to also overcome that 'sleepy eye' fog that the reticle sight had cured. Only with the laser, I could shoot from the hip if I for some reason couldn't focus, or it was just too dark in a particular situation. Just 'red dot'em' and squeeze. And after all my stubborness and resistance, I ended up with one of those 12 gauge, gadget strewn, gimic wearin', BadBoy lookin' shotguns that I swore I didn't need, and all the kids were dying to have and look so cool with! I've come to call it my 'Hot Rod Lincoln'. Anyway, you get the drift. Times they are changing my friend. Don't fight it. (Though I still do every chance I get)..Respectfully. memphismark ps. This picture obviously doesn't have the pistol grip forend yet. I'll get around to posting a more recent pic someday.

Hello friends and neighbors// I like shotguns, mostly 870s and mostly Wingmasters but I do depend on and enjoy shooting other types too.

First is the one I started with, a 1976, Remington, 870, Wingmaster , 12ga., my go to shotgun since new in 76'.
1976rem870wm.jpg

All you need are a few extra barrels and the versatility is obvious.

Next is my truck/travel gun a Stevens ,311, 12ga. with 18 1/2" barrels, very handy.
Stevens 311.jpg

I also have the 30" barrels, a 10" .22 caliber insert, .410 inserts and hope to find .20 and 16ga. inserts.(just too cheap to pay full price)

Time for a nod to the local P.D. for this cruiser scarred,1974 High Standard, K120, RIOT, 12ga.

Tactical back then meant pistol grip and short barrel, at least to these folks at that time.
This one would have some stories to tell if possible.

How about Winchesters, RIOT shotgun offerings in 1968. Model 1200 "Speed Pump" ,12ga.
winriot1968.jpg

Never even been assembled.
If my other shotguns all break it will get used!

I do have an 870 Express Tactical w/ Ghost Ring Sights but it is my least used so far.
Too old I guess, can't get used to the Ghost rings after shooting that 1976 Wing Master for so many years.
I think the 76 will have stay at the top of the list for a bit longer...

Good luck finding what works for you.

For MrM4. What a great collection. I'm a sooo jealous. I do have a question for you though, it's a bit off-subject. How do you download, or upload I should say, such large beautiful pictures? If you scroll down your screen to a posting by memphismark, you'll see I can only seem to get 'postage stamp' sized pics. If you click them, they will enlarge a little, but your's are fantastic!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly computer literate, but I haven't ventured to far into this area. Thanks a bunch.

For larryh1108

. My friends laughed when I put a 4 reticle sight on my Mossy 12. They said 'you don't put reticles on shotguns'. Oh yea, I said, watch me. It's the best choice ever for me. Both eyes open target aquisition. Fantastic. Just wondering what your experience has been. memphismark

Pick a picture.
Upload it to a hosting site, e.g. photobucket.
Once it is uploaded, hover your cursor over the pic and a drop down menu will show the options.
Pic the one for IMG code, .
Copy and paste into your thread reply.

It seems we have the same taste! My 57 year old eyes love the way this picks up the target. So far it's held up fine and I don't see firing off 50 rounds in a row really fast any time soon to see if I can shake it off. Soo, why is it we can't put them on a shotgun? I must have missed that article.

The first one is my SuperNova, which currently has the SBE II stock. As you can tell, it is not currently stable and increases the LOP to something that Yao Ming would use. It will be a lot better once I get the right replacement (which is in the mail). I'm should say that Benelli CS has actually been very high quality, even though I'm giving them a hard time.

The second one is my Mossberg 930 SPX, which I bought when my supernova broke. The shell holder is on upside-down so that I can hold the shells on the left side (I'm southpaw).

My 14" brl 12 ga Mossberg 590A1 SBS pump with factory ghost ring sights and front tritium post, Hogue youth stock (12" LOP), Surefire 621FA Weaponlight, 3-GunGear.com 7 rd nylon/velcro side saddle, and Blackhawk front sling adapter:

My 18.5" 12 ga Mossberg 930SPX semi-auto:

I want a shorter stock for the 930SPX, but have still to find what I'm looking for. Also gonna get another nylon/velcro side saddle, a tactical light, and maybe an optic.

Centurian short shells

Yo Skribs! Are those shells in saddle the Centurian shorts? If so, what do you think. I almost bought a few boxes from Cheaper Than Dirt online, but I decided to do some investigation first. I stumbled on some You Tube vids as I usually can find something on there to answer most questions sooner or later. Good thing I tend to have the same questions as everybody else cuz' there is always something there for me. Go figure. Anyway, these guys seem to be having some big trouble loading and ejecting these things. Especially the semi auto boys. Pumpers seemed to fare a little better. Probably 50% or more of the vids were troublesome shells. I'd be really curious how yours are working out. I was hoping to use them to increase magazine capacity. 5+1 could now turn into 7+1 according to some. All seemed to agree, and some demonstrated at the outdoor ranges, that they definitely had the power to do the job. A couple less shot pellets, and about 250 or so FPS slower, but still deadly without any doubt. Would appreciate your thoughts. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested. Firequest might also have them. Anybody have any other sources? Thanks much. memphismark

No, just Royal Buck buckshot. I bought it because the other stuff was $5/box and it was $4/box.

I am looking at getting into reloading, and when I do, I'll make sure my shells are short enough that I can actually get 7+1, currently I only get 6+1 because they're crimped a bit long.
