Unfortunately, some who eat them have dire consequences, like leprosy.

I guess they miss that at the annual armadillo festival in Hamburg, Arkansas. Armadillo chili is fairly popular down in Texas too. Good recipes on the web. I used to catch them by hand. The secret is to sneak up behind them and grab them at the base of the tail and yank them off the ground. They will kick and thrash for a minute until they figure they can't get away and then they just hang there. If you screw up and don't get them off the ground quick, they will try to tow you under the nearest inanimate object. They are pretty darned strong. You need to avoid the toenails.

If you live in Louisiana, a license is 25 bucks.

Not Here!

"To take part in the statewide alligator harvest, you’ll need an alligator trapping license, a statewide alligator harvest permit and two alligator hide validation CITES tags. The cost for this is:

  • $272 for Florida residents
  • $22 for those with a Florida Resident Persons with Disabilities Hunting and Fishing License. NOTE: Residents over 65 who have previously held a Florida Resident Persons with Disabilities Hunting and Fishing License and need to renew it should reach out to [email protected] before applying for the statewide alligator harvest to avoid being charged $272
  • $1,022 for nonresidents"

I guess they don’t give a reduced rate for sr. citizens because the three other people in the state not in that category would complain.

I'm really liking this interesting thread. Here's a Turkey Vulture up in a tree about 130 yards out back in May of 2020. Had to slowly stalk through a lot of brush and undergrowth to get a decent shot; even with the telephoto lens on. IMG_2631.JPG

Well, I wouldn't do it as a nonresident, that's for sure. $272 isn't bad if you really want an alligator. I have no idea why I would want one though. I don't need a purse.

When I was a kid, seemed like anytime someone went down to FL, they came back with a bag of oranges, a carved coconut, and and a tan alligator purse.

And sometimes a live baby alligator, and when they flushed them into the sewers…. lol
