We saw this beast on Guemes Island in the Southern San Juans. Walking around like he owned the place. 0719221956.jpg

Javelinas are actually game animals, but they're so cool I had to put up some pics of one that was hanging around my back yard. There was a family of seven or eight other ones too, but this was the closest one. I don't like them hanging around too close because they can be dangerous if they think you're threatening their babies, or they feel cornered. I keep a Crosman 1322 air pistol handy to sting their butts with if they get too comfy hanging around near the house. A shotgun is handy too, but hasn't been needed.

This guy is snacking on mesquite beans.

Looks adorable doesn't he? Watch out! It's a Tasmanian devil and he has a very bad attitude.

Here's a coati having lunch near a little river in the bottom of a canyon.

The coati is the little dark dot among the rocks on the left side of the water.

Much closer now. Coatis are a relatives of raccoons. This guy is turning over rocks and eating bugs.

I had an old friend, now sadly no longer with us, who worked at the Tyrone mine for Wagner. He said it took some time to figure out who was rifling the employee lockers at the mine, but after cameras were installed it was discovered that a couple Coatimundis were sneaking in and had figured out how to open the lockers and steal lunches. Very clever creatures.

That's me as a kid in the U.P. of Michigan. That's not a dog. It's not a game animal because it's too young.

I'm sure this situation would break a lot of laws today -- maybe it did even then. I'm not advocating the actions depicted, etc. etc. etc.
