You can use them they, will shear a larger ring, but if the loading leaver pressure seems excessive load the cylinder off the gun.

I am going to venture to say that when you seat the .457 balls they will have shaved off the excess to fit but I am interested to know if this makes any difference myself. I don't think so but I could be wrong.

PS: I didn't see post two there. Sorry.

The only balls I use in mine are .457, but I load the cylinder off the gun in a press.

Be careful you don't shear the screw that attaches the ram to the loading lever.

I used a press to ram home some 457's the other day , I wouldn't put too much trust in the loading lever on the Rem.
The lever would probably hold up but there is always a chance of a " Murphy " moment , you know " :cuss: !!!!!!! " time.
on the gun it's 454 all day for me.. YMMV...

I broke the screw that holds my loading lever on the frame loading .457 RB'S. It took it for about 8 cylinders and then snap. Not very easy to get out either. I would get .454 balls if it was my gun again.

I have bent the loading lever screw and had to replace it 3-4 times on my remington, I wouldn't use .457s unless they were loaded off the gun. If the lead is just very slightly on the hard side, the screw will start to bend, and that is with .451's. You can tell it's bending when the base pin comes out before you unscrew the loading lever.

Hmmm... I use .457" balls in my Pietta NMA, but eventually had the chambers reamed to .449" to get them closer to groove diameter (.452"). I shot quite a bit and never had or felt an issue.

And my boolits are .456" that I predominately use, but have much larger bearing surfaces compared to a ball.

The larger the bearing surface the more friction, and the more friction the more pressure, which has usually shown a bit of an increase in velocity, though it's not that much. Often match shooters will use the larger ball though. But part of that may be due to voodoo.
