Pietta 1858 Twist Rate?

Anybody have any idea what the twist rate is for a 5 1/2" barrel on a Pietta 1858 Remington? I have a Howell conversion cylinder for .45 ACP and I have some Berry's Bullets loaded up that I'd like to try...but I'm wondering about accuracy of the Berry's vs. round lead ball.

According to the Pietta website, the standard .36 & .44 Pietta Remingtons have a 1 in 30" twist.
The 5.5" & 12" versions aren't listed specifically, nor is their Shooter's Model that has progressive rifling.
However their Remington product page includes the following statement which seems to indicate that the twist rate for all of their standard models is the same.

FWIW, the currently made Uberti Remingtons were reported to have a faster twist rate of about 1 in 18".

A 1:32 twist in the standard (they make two entirely different 58 revolvers) Pietta 58 Remy is a lot slower than the Uberti 58 twist of 1:18.

The other Pietta 58 is the "Shooters Model", it has progressive gain twist rifling and a much better fit and finish. IMO it is the most accurate 58 Remy on the market. The revolver is not marked Shooters, but on the ones I have seen the trigger guard was silver plated which tarnishes very easy..



Do not expect to get one cheap, IIRC, Dixie Gun Works lists them at $600.00+.

Another great one is the Hege match 58 Remy, but that 512 Euro ($667.00 dollars) is not cheap either.

I noticed in the photo of the Pietta shooters model that it has a dovetailed front sight unlike their standard Remmie. That would make it a better shooter.

The Euroarms standard Remington models have a twist rate of 1 in 26.5".
But their sport model has a Lothar Walther barrel and a 1 in 17.7" twist rate.
The Lothar Walther barrels can be identified by the large letter "N" that are stamped on them.
Kwhi43 won the 2012 NMLRA National 25 yard "as issue" revolver match at Friendship with a Euroarms sport model.
I guess that shows that a fast twist revolver barrel isn't too detrimental to round ball accuracy.

I got a 1st place in the "As Issue" 25 yd revolver.
Used my Euroarms 44 1858 Remington with the Lothar match barrel. It shot really well.
