Pietta or Uberti revolver?

For the 1858 models I believe that the Ubertis have the front sight and loading lever lug dovetailed to the barrel, whereas Piettas have them spot-welded.

I've got guns from Uberti, Pietta and the old Navy Arms and Replica Arms. The new Piettas and Ubertis are VERY close to being made to the same standards. If by some chance Pietta was the underdog at some point I would say that this is certainly no longer the case and has not been a factor for some years now.

The old Navy and Replica arms guns I have are another story....

I would not sell my Ubertis in favour of Piettas. But if both companies had guns which looked the same I would not hesitate to go with Pietta for the cost saving.

My two 1873 replicas I use for cowboy shooting are Piettas. And I also use a sequential serial numbered pair of Uberti 1858 Remingtons for some BP giggles when it's not raining up this way. Both sets are nicely done on both the insides and outsides. If I had to say one way or the other I'd say the Ubertis get the nod of my cowboy hat for being a smidgeon better overall for internal quality. But it's as close to even as the thickness of a hair on a scale from crappy to excellent that is a yard long.

I don't know how I missed the pics on the first page of replies but I'm somewhat shocked at the roughness of the work on that 1960. The lack of quality seen in that gun certainly did not come out in my two Pietta 1873's I've got. Could it be that the different models come from different factories under the Pietta "umbrella"?

The sort of issues seen in the pictures is more like what I found on my older Navy and Replica Arms guns that I got. Sort of like "rough kits that are loosely assembled for shipping conveinience".
