Pistol Caliber Carbine- bullet velocity

Just thought I'd add some further thoughts. With 7.2 gn Blue Dot I was averaging nearly 300 FPS higher with the carbine (16") than with the 4" Springfield XD. Also, I was using 115 grain RN HiTek-Coated-bullets (a.k.a. 'lipstick' bullets). I should mention that that Acme factory is about 20 miles from where I live. Since I had some questions about the coated bullets, the owner- I'll leave his name out unless/until I have his permission to share-
invited me out to the factory. A couple of things; the 124 grain RN 9mm I was having issues with were not with the bullets at all; it was an issue with the EGW chamber checker I was using. I bought a Lyman chamber checker and have had no issues since; the EGW had such a tight chamber, the ONLY bullets that would work were 115 gn RN. With the Lyman, 115 RN, 122 FP, 124 RN, 145 RN, and 147 FP all work flawlessly. The EGW chamber measures 0.350", the Lyman measures 0.359/0.360. That tells me that ANY bullet that the full diameter
0.355/0.356 extends AT ALL into the chamber of the EGW will not seat properly; I would NOT recommend it at all, at least the 9mm. At any rate, I discussed with the owner any possible speed 'limits' to HiTek-Coated-bullets; I don't know of any. He took a high temp torch (Bernzamatic?) to a coated bullet; the lead would melt but just brown the coating a bit-and that is at several thousand degrees. BTW, I have ordered the conversion kit to 45ACP for my ASR- will update as I learn more.

With a fast powder in 9MM you'll get next to no added FPS in a 16" barrel vs a 5", but with a slow one I've seen 150 to 200+ FPS extra, depending on the powder and bullet weight.

The second week in May chronoed a 125 gr FMJ over 3.95 grs. Titegroup from a 4.6" pistol with approximately 1.5-2k rounds through a new barrel and chronoed ~1,050 fps. The same cartridge lot through a new PCC with a 16" barrel chronoed right after the pistol so same temp, pressure, humidity, etc. yielded 1,250 fps.

Not saying you are wrong, but in my case with the firearms involved there was a difference.
