JMOfartO:
The title of the thread was "pistol chambered for 32ACP", and the poll was the question of "the best pistol chambered in 32ACP"...
Since the question of "best" is subjective in a gun owners mind depending on his/her experience I'm thinking there is no one "correct answer". Each of us chooses a particular firearm for several reasons, some of which could make absolute no sense to someone else who might be shopping for the same type firearm.
For example if I were asked what 32ACP pistol I considered (from my personal experience) the best "value" for the money I'd say the "KelTec P32" hands down.. Heck I paid $225 for a new one a few years ago, it was absolutely reliable and reasonably accurate and when I sold it to a buddy he gave me my $225 back.. Fine little plastic gun and if all a person wanted was a good 32ACP pistol they need look no further.
If I were asked what 32ACP pistol I would not chose, again, it would be the Beretta Tomcat, hands down. My Tomcat was a pos, the folks at Beretta CS were of the same quality as the Tomcat, and I was so put off by both that I've sworn off Beretta's forever.. Of course at my age (66) forever is not such a big deal..
In fairness I will say my Tomcat was a first series, and later on the pistol was "beefed" up and apparently the current models are just fine. I'm just one of those "screw me once, shame on you", "screw me twice, shame on me" kinda guy, so no more Beretta's in this hacienda. If YOU have a Tomcat and it works good for you, then I'm sure you have a fine 32ACP firearm.
My original interest was for a Seecamp because everything I read said it was the "best" 32ACP when all considerations were taken into account. Quality, size, performance, etc. Trouble is that back then they were almost impossible to get, and scalpers were charging an arm and a leg for them, when you could find one.
So, I bought an NAA Guardian. The Guardian is basically a clone of the Seecamp LWS32 as the Ruger LCP is a clone of the KT P32. Imitation is not necessarily a bad thing, and my Guardians (I had two) were both excellent pistols. Reliable, accurate, of good quality and I would recommend one to anybody. I had a slight function issue with the 1st one, but NAA has great CS/repair, and I sent my Guardian back to NAA, it was fixed free, and never bobbled again.. NAA even sent me a new free mag for my inconvenience. Nice folks at NAA.
Finally two years ago I realized I could buy a new Seecamp for basically the same price of a new Guardian, or new Tomcat. I ordered one and only paid $375.00 for it. I had to wait a couple of months to get it, but once I had it, I was ruined.. It was simply heads and heels above the competition TO ME in terms of overall quality that all others paled in comparison.
The tiny size of the LWS32 makes it just vanish in the pocket. (Rear pocket for me). The old bugaboo about how Seecamps will only shoot Silvertip jhp's is absolutely wrong and if you doubt me visit the
www.seecamp.com forum and read the posts for yourself. I have three (one LWS380/2 LWS32's) and they all love Speer Gold Dots.
Seecamps DO require jhp's with the soul exception (to the best of my knowledge) of the Winchester white box Q4255 which is a truncated fmj round. I use the cheaper Q4255's for plinking, altho I would certainly not hesitate to use them for a cc round if necessary. I just prefer Gold Dot jhps..
I will say that because of the tiny size of the Seecamp the pistols ARE more affected by ammunition out of spec.. That is the reason Larry Seecamp recommends a person carrying a Seecamp for personal protection to buy a new box of whatever ammo he/she prefers, (say a box of 20), and that person shoot 13 rounds and if all goes well, load up the final 7 and he/she is good to go.
My wife and I have done that and once a year or so we shoot up the old ammo and reload with fresh ammo using the same procedure. Never a concern for reliability.
If you don't think the Seecamp is the highest quality of manufacture between those guns mentioned I suggest, respectfully, that you probably have not held and shot a Seecamp.
I believe a KT P32 would make anyone a very good choice in 32ACP. I think for those who don't care for a European "heel" mag release, and prefer a "takedown" button for cleaning and someone who wants to shoot fmj's the Guardian is a fine choice over the LWS32. I believe anyone needing a "tip up" barrel for some reason should consider a NEW model Tomcat, and I think someone who wants the very best, and I believe smallest 32ACP on the market would be well served by a Seecamp.
I think folks who buy a Seecamp over the others is simply someone who is looking for "quality" and performance, vs just performance. I think having what is considered the "best of the best" is just something some folks enjoy having, (I'm one of them) and I'm old and retired and I can't afford the "best of the best" of many things, but I can in this particular situation, so that's what I bought, and that's what I cc daily.
There are no wrong answers in any of those guns mentioned, just different choices. Mine is not necessarily right for you, nor is your choice necessarily right for me.
No offense to those who might disagree.
Best Wishes,
Jesse
